label for “86 Years is a hazy double IPA double dry-hopped with Galaxy”

Here’s one from Bluejacket (300 Tingey Street, SE): “The Navy Yard brewery will tap a brand-new double IPA for the occasion: 86 Years. A reference to how long it’s been since a Washington baseball team has made it to the World Series, 86 Years is a hazy double IPA double dry-hopped with Galaxy – it’s a juicy fruit bomb of a brew that shows intense notes of passionfruit, peach and orange, and it goes on draft Tuesday in time for Game 1. Plus, we’ll have the following food + beer specials available during watch parties for all away games:

$5 Cans
Solidarity Brew 2019 – Kellerbier
Controlling Interest – Golden Ale

$5 Drafts
Turning Road
For The Company
Object Lesson
Palace at 4am

Smoky Onion Rings with curry mayo $5
Fried Chicken Bites with fermented chili aioli $7
Peel & Eat Shrimp with old bay, charred lemon aioli $12

Standby for many more. With likely late hours too.

Thanks to all who passed on the sad news from The Pinch:

“They say all good things must come to an end… Sadly after nearly 8 great years The Pinch will be closing it’s doors. We’ve enjoyed our time spent here in Columbia Heights and getting to know our neighbors and friends and would love to see you all before we go! Our last night will be Tuesday 10/22/19!

The Pinch opened here back in mid-2012. Previously the space was home to El Salvadorena. Updates when we learn what becomes of the space.

L’Annexe’s website says:

“L’Annexe is Washington’s very own corner cocktail bar — where European sophistication and Georgetown charm come together with élan and discerning tastes. To retreat here is to experience music, indulge in deep conversations, sate the appetite, laugh — and enjoy a daily chapter in the literature of life.

“Dear PoPville,

Outside of the standard Bullpen or The Brig (which I do love) it would be cool for a couple options for outdoor/projection screen watch party spots. I will say the Viewing at Nats Park last night was awesome, but not paying for regular priced concessions.”

Whoa. Hearing from a very reliable source that Iron Horse could be closing October 26th. Iron Horse opened up here back in January 2010.  Updates as we learn more.

UPDATE: Now I hear they are simply selling and will remain open. So hopefully won’t notice too many changes.

UPDATE Oct. 3rd: They ARE closing October 26th!

Washingtonian now reports:

“After a decade of arcade games and motorcycle motifs, Penn Quarter tap room Iron Horse will close on October 26. But the space won’t stay vacant for long. Owners Curt Large and Geoff Dawson of hospitality group Tinshop (Franklin Hall, Tallboy) are teaming up with Ryan Seelbach, co-owner of Shaw bars Takoda and Cortez, to bring endless summer to the space. The Boardwalk, a beach-y bar serving frozen cocktails and corn dogs, will open in early November.”

And here’s the full press release:

“TAKODA Restaurant & Beer Garden and CORTEZ Restaurant & Rooftop Bar owner Ryan Seelbach is pleased to announce the early November, 2019 anticipated opening of The Boardwalk, the 350-person Boardwalk-inspired bar & eatery located at 507 7th Street NW, Washington, DC, 20004. The Boardwalk’s name is derived from the coastal boardwalks of Ocean City, MD, Rehoboth Beach, DE, Brooklyn, NY, and Santa Monica, CA. The Boardwalk will be a welcome addition to the lively Penn Quarter and Chinatown neighborhoods. Guests can anticipate creative takes on popcorn, hot dogs, corn dogs, and cotton candy paired with an extensive draft beer list, cocktails on draft, and frozen drinks. The Boardwalk’s friendly atmosphere will also offer games such as shuffleboard, foosball, and arcade basketball. (more…)
