On Monday we shared the news that “A community-centric coffeehouse” was coming to the former Filter space in Dupont. Turns out it is indeed the same folks from P Street. STAY TUNED for updates as they get closer to opening.

11th and P Street, NW

Oof, this one hurts. Thanks to Katie (and all who messaged) for the heads up this morning: “the neighborhood favorite corner spot bar, Commodore Public House and Kitchen, will be closing next week.”

The Commodore opened up in the former Veranda space back in 2016.

From The Commodore:

“To all of our staff, regulars and irregulars,

It is with great sadness that we send this note out to everyone. Unfortunately, we were not able to come to a lease extension agreement with our landlord and we have to hang up the old Diver helmet. (more…)

From Ivy & Coney:

“Ivy and Coney, DC’s premier baseball bar, is proud to announce the third annual Chai-vy and Cohen-y Hanukkah Bar: Bar Mitzvah1. Bar. Mitzvah (We invite you to let our amazing wordplay sink in for a moment). From December 2nd through New Years’ Eve of the year 5780, the Manischewitz shall flow, the dreidels shall spin and fun will be had by all. While some may prefer their holiday festivities as “Christmas-with-a-baseball-twist”, we’re pitching ours as “Baseball-with-a-Hanukkah-fastball.” Simply put, it’s gonna be meshuga2.

In honor of our holiday that involves actual fire (not just some wimpy string lights and pine trees), we’ve added delicious latkes, sufgani-shots (jelly donut in shot form), 8-night fiery cider (Hint: it starts with fire and ends in ball) and Manischewitz’s finest kosher wines to the menu. Latkes, arguably the most important culinary creation since unleavened bread, will feature prominently as a reminder of both that the oil used to light the menorah in the holy temple and that fried foods truly are the tastiest. Each night we will be lighting the Hanukiyah at approximately 7:30 PM (December 22nd through the 29th) and invite our guests to participate. (more…)

A reader reported around 6:45pm last night: “This just happened to me at stoneys tonight. They had a vent collapse on me and my GF at the bar. Might be closed a few days!”

Stoney’s tweeted “Sorry for late notice but P Street location will be closed for the rest of the evening. Trivia will be held @StoneysonL for teams who are interested!” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My fiance and I are just starting to plan a wedding in DC and trying our hardest not to spend a billion dollars. We’re considering a restaurant for ceremony/dinner and then headed to a bar afterwards for drinks/dancing? The wedding is around 125-150, so pretty big. But of course not everyone will go to the bar afterwards. My guess is around ~50 or so would. (Ideally, we’d do Haydees in Mount Pleasant if that’s possible.)

Any good suggestions?”

Ed. Note: The Berliner only opened up next door/underneath Gypsy Sally’s about a year ago. I haven’t heard if the building sale/condo conversion will affect them. Stay tuned.

Thanks to all who messaged us. I keep forgetting to post this from Gypsy Sally’s:

As you may have heard, our landlord recently sold the building where we have resided since 2013. It will be developed into condominiums. With great sadness, Gypsy Sally’s will have its final load-out on January 5th, 2020. Until then, we plan on conducting business as usual with a full calendar of great music for you to enjoy. Stay tuned for info in the coming weeks regarding John Kadlecik’s plans for our final show. It is only fitting that John should preside over our send off, and we are honored that he will be hosting our closing festivities. (more…)

The Imperial – Credit to Rey Lopez

From a press release:

“One of the country’s most acclaimed drinking destinations will soon open its second venture, The Imperial, in Washington, DC’s south Adams Morgan neighborhood at 2001 18th Street, NW, on Wednesday, November 13. The experience at the stunning three-floor, 5500+ square foot restaurant and bar begins in the bright, light-filled dining room, where Chef Russell Jones serves Mid-Atlantic inspired cuisine through the lens of southern France. The main floor also features a sparkling raw bar, and drinking bar pouring interesting wines, creative craft cocktails and vintage spirits. Real cocktail enthusiasts can head downstairs to the basement cocktail den Dram & Grain, and al fresco diners can enjoy drinks and dinner under the stars on The Imperial’s two-tiered open-air rooftop bar.

Last week we were surprised to see Larry’s Lounge had “gone fishing”. Turns out they just missed a permit/license filing. All is well with the world again. Thanks to Aaron for the update from Larry’s:

“We’re reopening Wednesday, Nov. 6! Stop by and see us because we’ve missed you.”

2321 18th Street, NW

The liquor license placard for Death Punch/Shabu Plus & Shibuya Eatery says:

“A new Retailer’s Class C Restaurant with a seating capacity of 90 and a Total Occupancy Load of 170. Summer Garden with 24 seats. Entertainment Endorsement to provide live entertainment indoors only.” (more…)
