Thanks to Colin for sending:

“I was driving by 1st and Kennedy and I was surprised to see that La Coop Coffee–which you’ve posted about before–is looking close to opening. Just checked their IG account for the first time, and they soft open today! So excited to have a coffee shop within walking distance!” (more…)

1367 R Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

I understand that business need to reopen and keep things afloat, and a big part of that is outdoor seating. But I walked past Bluestone Lane in Logan Circle this morning and saw these tables in the middle of what I believe is a public sidewalk. Is this legal, and even if it is, isn’t this violating some kind of social distancing rules? There’s no way to get around the tables in a “socially distant” manner if people are sitting there (and if people are also sitting on the benches, which they usually are). Also, it’s just plain annoying to have this in the middle of the sidewalk.”

Ed. Note: I know many establishments were able to apply for extended patios. I’m not 100% sure what’s happening here but from the photo it looks like maybe they placed a separation so that it is safe to walk by in the street?

Not since Sparky’s Espresso Cafe closed next door many moons ago has Logan had such terrible coffee news. Thanks to John for sending from Peregrine:

“Next Sunday, June 28, will be our last day on 14th St NW. Our lease is up and the neighborhood rent has outpaced our sales. We are sad to be leaving this great community and our fantastic customers. Thank you for your support for the past nine years!” (more…)
