“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced DC Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, January 28. Families with students enrolled at a public charter school should expect to hear directly from their school and can also check here to see if their school has changes to their operating posture. “Dear PoPville,

I live near 17th St NW and Kalorama Rd and wanted to share an incident from this afternoon.

Around 1:00 p.m. today (January 27, 2026), an 18-wheeler making a delivery to the Harris Teeter at 17th St and Kalorama Rd attempted to pull out of the loading dock heading northbound on 17th St. The truck quickly became stuck and began spinning its wheels on the ice. Update from DC Water:

“DC Water teams and contractors are working around the clock to operate a bypass system that diverts wastewater away from a damaged section of the Potomac Interceptor. This major sewer line overflowed along the Clara Barton Parkway and C & O National Historical Park one week ago. Industrial pumps have been running since late Saturday, but heavy snow and extreme cold continue to create challenges for the equipment and operations. (more…)
