“The Library of Congress National Book Festival will return on Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. Part of the Library’s celebration of America 250: It’s Your Story, this year’s festival is an invitation to further appreciate the country’s history.
One of the nation’s favorite literary traditions, the 2026 National Book Festival will provide a multifaceted storytelling experience with expanded programming. Throughout the day, attendees will hear conversations with more than 80 authors from a myriad of literary genres. Additionally, there will be programming spotlighting music, film, recorded sound, veterans’ history, American folklife, and more, providing a window into the vast scope of the Library’s collections and year-round programs.

Literally nearly every doctor I go to at GW MFA is leaving/has left in the last year. This includes my primary doctor, 2 endocrinologists, a hand doctor and today, got word about my dermatologist. What the hell? There’s a whole thing going on with the business side be reorganized but this is cray cray!”

From the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington (RAMW):
“New data from the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) show that closures among DC’s mid-priced restaurants fell sharply by 54% in the first two quarters of 2026 — offering evidence that the DC Council’s 2025 reform of Initiative 82 is relieving pressure on local restaurants, even as operators continue to face higher costs, weaker diner spending, and staffing challenges.
Across all restaurant types, closures have fallen 43% year-over-year. The findings come as voters may soon consider Initiative 87, a new ballot measure that would raise D.C.’s minimum wage — already the highest of any state in the country — to $25 an hour, a faster and steeper increase than any American city has attempted.
