Thanks to Kristen for sending from Bloomingdale: “Well, we knew we had a hawk visitor based on occasional “gifts” on our deck, and now we have proof. Spotted this guy (perhaps a juvenile red-tailed hawk) feasting on one of our local squirrels this morning. Would prefer he stick to rats but what can you do.”

“Chef Masako Morishita will soon launch a traditional Japanese breakfast service, the first of its kind in Washington, DC, at Perry’s in Adams Morgan (1811 Columbia Rd, NW). Beginning on October 21 and available every other Saturday, the new Japanese breakfast menu features a $42 pre-set offering of traditional items including grilled salt-cured ocean trout accompanied by a sampling of small dishes such as Shiso Dashi Maki Tamago, a Japanese-style soft omelet made with jidori eggs and shiso; Nikujaga – beef tenderloin, potatoes and carrot stew and Nasu Agedashi – fried shishito and eggplant in a sweet dashi soy broth. House-made Nuka Zuke, rice bran pickled cucumber and carrots, round out the menu with condiments like homemade furikake and nori. All breakfast set orders are accompanied with koshihikari rice and miso soup. (more…)
