What’s with pets ok but no cats?! Never heard that one before.

This seems like a steal for the neighborhood especially for a couple or roommates!

    • nevermindtheend

I came here to say the same thing about pets being ok, but not cats. That is very strange.

As a cat owner, I can maybe understand this. The stink of cat pee does not go away.

      • Anon Spock

        Cat smell lingers.

Is there really a difference between cat and dog or human urine?

        • Formerly ParkViewRes

As someone who grew up with 3 cats and 1 dog, yes cat urine is so much worse. As Anon Spock pointed it out it also lingers. If they pee on the wood floors it’s terrible.

        • Truxton Thomas

Yes, cat urine is permanent. Ruins wood flooring and drywall, and luggage.

        • Anon Spock

Everything from diet to hormones can change that. Also of the 3, cats are usually the only ones peeing into a container you keep around the house.

          • not just cats

people also pee into containers that you keep around the house

It made me wonder whether maybe the owner is very allergic to cats and plans to move back into the house someday… but given that there’s no carpeting, maybe the concern is indeed about cat pee.

      • JoDa

Agree on both fronts. Cat pee is impossible to tackle if they go anywhere but the litterbox, and I know far too many cats who “miss” for various reasons from time-to-time (owners didn’t clean the litterbox enough, old age/sickness, on and on). Allergies are also a major concern for some people, and cat hair is a very difficult beast to tackle. I currently have a tenant in a place that had cats prior, and notified me that she was highly allergic to cats before moving in (I was upfront that there had been cats in there prior). I took extra care in cleaning the place before she moved in (got all nooks and crannies after the housekeepers did a full clean, changed the air filter and ran the system on fan for a while, then changed it again), and she still had to do more cleaning to get her allergies to stop reacting. And that place has all hard floors (wood and tile).

Thanks for this background, JoDa — I had no idea that cat dander could be so tenacious even with hard floors.

      home owner’s allergies?

  • Idontgetit

My pony may have trouble with all the stairs but it’s a great location.

  • Hello PoPville! I’m the listing agent for 986 Florida Ave NW. Just wanted to clarify about the “no cat” policy…TextDoc got it right in that the owner has some serious cat allergies. Thanks for the comments and feedback!

Why settle for an apartment when you can live behind barred windows in a classic DC rowhouse?

    • Positive Pamela

Maybe it’s just me, but barred windows don’t bother me at all. In fact, the ones we have at our current row home have beautiful details and add character to the house. Not to mention, we feel safer with them! It makes me sad how many people don’t want to live in these classic DC row homes anymore. I’m worried about the future of residential architecture in certain neighborhoods of the District.

    Why not please?

the windows are off center and it would drive this Libra totally and completely batsh*t crazy…
