“WHAT: Lower Georgia Avenue Main Street proudly presents Africa On The Avenue, a celebration of Africa and the African diaspora’s vibrant immigrant community along Georgia Avenue NW. Join us on Saturday, May 18, at Bruce Monroe Park for this one-day festival featuring live music and entertainment, food, a vendor market, double dutch, braiding demonstrations, and family-friendly activities.

WHO: Africa On The Avenue is organized by Lower Georgia Avenue Main Street, a program of District Bridges, and is made possible by partners and sponsors the Mayor’s Office on African Affairs, TheAfricanDream, and the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development.

WHERE: Bruce Monroe Park, 3000 Georgia Ave NW (between Columbia Rd and Irving Street)
WHEN: Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm

20+ local makers, businesses, and food vendors

African hair braiding
Live music includes DJ Underdog, Los Rumberos (an Afro-Cuban ensemble), Dokun and the Afrobeat (Nigerian Afrobeats), Cheick Hamala Diabaté (a Malian ensemble), Farafina Kam (West African drumming and dancing), Fedel Band (an Ethiopian ensemble), and Kimmie’s Heavy Hoops.
