Topic Tag: permits
We are under contract with a house in the city and have discovered that permits were applied for but never issued. Our seller is contractually obligated to get the permits, but we think it might be easier to get additional seller credits, a more robust warranty, etc.
My question is this: Does anyone have experience owning an unpermitted home?
I am looking for contractor recommendations for installing an egress window into our basement bedroom. The contractor I was going to go with is from MD and doesn’t understand DC permitting…
Recently they removed the site which allows people to check on building permit applications. http://pivs.dcra.dc.gov/OBPAT/Default.aspx
I’m curious what incorrect information they are referring. While talking to them on the phone regarding status, it’s often difficult to get the complete picture.
Any ideas? Is this information something FOIA can help? Or other ways to get this system back?
I am trying to figure out if the local ANC’s actually have any real or legal power over residential construction or building permits. We recently got permits to turn our carport into a garage. (It took a while) We are working with a larger area builder/company they did the designs and all the running back and forth for the permits. We have them post on our door.
We do NOT live in a historical area or any special zoning to our knowledge. And none of our neighbors have ever mentioned anything surrounding the topic. We have been open with our construction goals with our neighbors.
After materials were delivered today one of our neighbors called and said she was concerned that we may not have asked out ANC for permission for construction?? I can not find anything that states the ANCs have jurisdiction over approved residential building permits. I also think it is odd that this is the first and only person that have mentioned this to us. Any feed back?
Hello fellow denizens of DC,
We just finished a basement renovation and we need to get the third party inspectors at DCRA inspect the work. Apparently, Pepco needs some paperwork before they can come and close off our electric box.
We’ve been calling and calling DCRA, leaving voicemails, but have not be successful in getting in touch with a real, live person who can help us with the final inspection.
Anyone have any experience getting a third party inspection from DCRA? Any advice you have is really appreciated!
