Rogue Resident Gets Barbies (and Kens) Pussyhats – Women’s General Strike Called for March 8th

“Bravo to whoever came by and put the Pussyhats on the Barbies (and the Kens). Yes, Barbie is NASTY!”

Speaking of which, from the Women’s March:

“In the spirit of women and their allies coming together for love and liberation, we offer A Day Without A Woman.”

  • Is the strike only work related like the day without immigrants one today?

    • Most of the time a general strike is a day without any economic activity on the part of those who are striking. Participants are encouraged to do no work, no shopping, no going out, etc. The goal is to show what our “economic world” would look like without women or immigrants, etc. participating.

In other countries, when there have been women’s strikes some women have chosen to include things like no sex or no cooking or cleaning at home to prove the point to their husbands and families but I am assuming that everyone’s mileage may vary on that type of thing depending on your family situation.

    • At least the calls to action that I saw for “un dia sin inmigrantes” today called not only for absence from work, but also no shopping, no online purchases or news-reading, and no sending kids to school or going to classes yourself – so no, today was not supposed to be just work-related.
