  • Since when did Culture Coffee have a liquor license? Or are they applying for one?

    • They have had one for at least a year. They use it mainly to sell beer/wine at after-hours events.

    • Hi Scott:

We received our liquor license – Class D back in 2014. Wine and Beer Only.

I wish they opened at a reasonable hour to get a cup of coffee in the morning before work. It’s a nice little coffee shop but opening after 8am is an odd choice.

    • My girlfriend was outside of their door at 8am sharp one day and the store was still not opened. The woman behind the counter made eye contact and did no even acknowledge her presences. She went elsewhere…

Same thing happened to me last week, except it was closer to 8:15. It’s a shame since there is a surprisingly heavy amount of people on Kennedy early in the morning thanks to all the daycares.

      • Hi Seab…

We’re sorry to read about your experience. Tell your girlfriend to come back by and have a free cup of coffee on me (give my name Saundrell). She should try our HAITIAN blend.

    • Thanks for the feedback Jim.

  • Culture Coffee is a really solid, unpretentious place on what is (at least for the moment) a dreary stretch of Kennedy. I was pleasantly surprised at how decent their food was when I dipped in the other day. I’d continue to go there even with a hopefully modest price increase. They just need to hold down this block until other stuff starts to pop up!

  • Price increase seems reasonable considering the following:
    Coffee = delicious
Smoothies = FANtastic and sooooo fresh!
Food = Yummm, please keep the grilled cheese panini!
    Open late

    Cons
Open too late for my morning coffee 🙁

  • I hope the “new menu” includes some legitimately fresh breakfast offerings. The prepackaged muffins and stale-looking croissants just don’t do it for me.

    • Thanks for the feedback Brian. Copying your comment for our next owners’ meeting.

  • Lets all say hooray for the DC minimum wage!!!!

    • HOORAY! Wages have been stagnant forever, but we all know how housing and other COL prices have gone.

      • If they can pay better wages and charge a reasonable amount of money for coffee that is great. How much should someone make to serve coffee though? Has the cost of living really got the the point a teenager can’t make it unless they are paid 15 bucks an hour? I’m honestly not trying to troll but this minimum wage hike sounds great on paper. But are we going to quit hiring teenagers and 15 dollars an hour isnt enough to live in DC. This minimum wage hike just makes it harder for some DC business to operate and sends DC dollars out the suburbs. DC already has a problem with most of their workers living outside of DC and paying taxes to Virginia or Maryland. I wish people could get past the populist message and look at how benefit DCs residents are actually receiving.

I know you are being snarky, but hooray! The cost of my purchases now reflect the true costs of me getting them! I would say I am actually pleased by this… I don’t really need the things I buy to come to me by way of poverty wages.

      • You do realize these increases nullifies the minimum wage increase. So, the working poor are still poor, and the middle class are brought closer to the bottom.
Artificially raising the minimum wage does more harm than good and we’ll all witness this over the next several years. You’re good intentions once again paves the road to Hell.

  • Their coffee was already fairly reasonably priced. While Culture doesnt open early they are open pretty late. I don’t feel real comfortable out on Kennedy after dark at the moment but its getting there. I’m looking forward to having a few cups of cider and grabbing a cup of coffee on my walk back home.

    • Thanks Brightwoodian…see you soon.
