Oh man, if the entrance is any indication… Ogawa open up already!!!

It’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything about the former Pines of Florence space turning into a new Japanese restaurant called Ogawa. While they (owners of the incredibly awesome Sushi Capitol on Capitol Hill) had hoped to open many months ago – we actually have real progress. They’ve applied for a liquor license that says:
“Traditional Japanese Sushi and Washoku Sushi in addition to fish and vegetable. Seating capacity of 56 and Total Occupancy Load of 75.”
I’ve emailed the owners to get a new opening date – standby. A peek inside is very promising (to my mural loving heart):

Big sushi news from the Washington Business Journal:
“Nobu will open in an 11,600-square-foot space on the ground floor of the condominium building [2501 M St, NW], which is expected to open in the fall of 2016. The buildout will cost more than $10 million…”
You can see their NY restaurant’s menu here.

“Dear PoPville,
What’s the deal with U Sushi? There are signs saying that they are now in Sala Thai. What’s going into the space?”
The Sala Thai folks say they closed the independent U Sushi space because their 10 year lease was up and prices were rising. Not clear if a new tenant has been found yet but will update as soon as its known.

Buredo’s soft opening [825 14th Street, NW] still seems to be in full effect – thanks to a reader for sharing a photo of what it looks like.

Buredo did a sneak peek Saturday and are soft open today too – I’m told the grand opening will be Thursday soon. Anyone get a taste of some burrito-size sushi?

Of course it’s one of the best happy hours in DC – from Sushi Taro:
“MONDAY – FRIDAY 5:30 – 7:00 only at the BAR.
Half price on regular sushi and all alcoholic drinks (excludes large bottles and mixed drinks)
As Washington D.C.’s premiere restaurant serving Japanese cuisine, Sushi Taro continues to educate people with our concept of serving genuine Japanese dishes along with superb selection of Sake and Sho-Chu.
This is a great opportunity for you to try some of our high-end sake or fulfill your curiosity about sho-chu.
Sushi Taro’s Happy Hour is one of the best and most valued deals in town, and we are often asked why we do not promote it. Sushi Taro’s bar has only 11 seats and we can’t accommodate such large crowds in such a short time.”

A reader asks:
“Out of curiosity, did anyone hear more about the Pines of Florence-turned Jambalaya Room-turned Ogama in Kalorama? The awning is still there but there doesn’t seem to be any progress which is a shame.”
The folks from Ogawa (same folks behind Sushi Capitol on the Hill) tell me:
“We are working hard to open in the next two month period, however, with all plans, there may be delays, but our intention is to open doors in the next 2 months.”

A reader reports just after 10am:
“just walked by Maki shop and noticed the now open sign and asked the guy cleaning the door if they were open and he said they would be in a few hours.”
