Nagomi Izakaya has opened in the former TakEatEasy space on M Street. Their website says:

“What is an Izakaya “居酒屋” ?

An izakaya is a type of Japanese drinking establishment that serves food to accompany the drinks. It serves as a gathering place for good drinks, good food and good times.

We are a family owned and operated restaurant located in the heart of Washington, D.C. We chose the izakaya concept because it is something we are familiar with. The idea of having a place to go to unwind after work and grab good drinks and great food is something we enjoy and wanted to bring to the neighborhood. We hope to see you soon!

So with Sushiko and Cafe Japone closing plus Perry’s switching to sushi in Adams Morgan, well it got me thinking about sushi. While we’ve spoken a lot about Ramen lately with Taan, Daikaya, and Toki Underground well, I feel like we’ve been neglecting sushi. For this week’s Friday Question of the Day, I thought it was a good time to reassess the best sushi in the District? And if it’s really really good, best sushi inside the beltway?

Years ago when we spoke about sushi options in DC there were tons of fans of Sushi Taro at 1503 17th Street, NW. Still a lot of fans of Sushi Taro? I think I’m leaning towards Izakaya Seki at 1117 V Street, NW as my favorite. Where’s yours?

Back in August of last year a reader noted that the former Senor Chicken space was for lease in DC USA. Well they finally got a new tenant – I spoke with the owners who told me it will be a “sushi and banh mi” restaurant. Could be awesome – I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the food is solid. Updates as they get closer to opening.

Senor Chicken originally opened back in November 2009.

Sushi Go Round & Tapas is located at 705 7th Street NW. This is the spot located next to the Verizon Center. I’m always curious about this spot when I go see a movie at the Regal Cinema inside the mall. You can see their menus here. Any fans?

Incidentally I had a crepe at the nearby Crepes on the walk. I had a cheese, avocado and tomato one for $6 and it was awesome!
