You can see best Carryouts here, best Thai here, best liquor stores here, best Ramen here, best Bars here, best Indian and Pakistani here, best Italian/Pizza/Deli here and best Mexican/Salvadoran/Central/Cuban/Latin here.

And now no messing around. Down and dirty – where’s D.C.’s best burgers? And what the hell – best fries?

At a risk of jamming too many together again but it worked last week so hopefully it will work this week as well – what are your favorite Mexican, Salvadoran, other Central American, Cuban, and Latin (inspired) restaurants around town?

Time to play my favorite game – best Italian in the D of C. It might be too much to handle all in one post but there’s so much overlap that I figure we should keep them under the same umbrella. Without further ado – where are all your favorites?

Ed. Note: Following this one very closely. Thank you in advance!

There have been quite a few Indian options added to the D.C. dining scene over the last few years – Pappe, Spice 6, Karma Modern, Punjab Grill, Bharati, Duet, Bombay Street Food and more not to mention the old stalwarts like Rasika, Indique, Bombay Club, Jyoti and tons more – so where are your favorites?

Lest we get in to a debate over what a dive bar is, let’s just nip that in the bud and include all bars. Your favorite bar can be all fancy with leather stools with armrest that have outlets, bubble machines, and ice imported from the finest natural springs, if you like. Or it can be Dan’s Cafe. Or it can be someplace nicely in between: (more…)

Got a question on twitter:

“ISO good ramen in DC ? I know the Cherry Blossom pop-up on 7th is to have ramen & been to Haikan but know of anywhere else I can look into?”

And it sparked a heated debate so let’s settle it in two parts – best Ramen in D.C. and best in the burbs?

Some options mentioned were Daikaya, Toki, Maketto, Haikan, Bantam King, Chaplin’s, Oki, Reren, Ren’s Ramen, Saku Ramen, and others I can’t recall. So who are your favorites?

“Dear PoPville,

Love this series. Would be great to see one on liquor store prices. I grew up in CA with Bevmo and selling in grocery stores, so the price of any liquor was fairly set across most stores. Here it feels like the same bottle can range in price by $10+ across stores.”

So, I titled this post ‘2nd best liquor store‘ because the best liquor store in D.C. is a cool little spot called Calvert Woodley Fine Wines & Spirits.  It is not really little but is really the best, there is no debate. Also they have a La Cheeserie. And their staff is top notch – “We couldn’t be prouder that we have 10 employees — 1/5 of our staff — who have been with us for over 25 years.” And their prices are the best. They are the best. So it is written so it so by order of the Prince of Petworth, March 7th 2019.

OK now that we got that out of the way, where is the 2nd best liquor store in D.C.? Per the OP’s request – where are the best bargains besides Costco? What liquor stores are the best for selection? Best beer? Best wine?

With Peking Express transitioning to Jerk and with Lalibela moving it got me thinking about how long the Yum’s next door will last and where’s the best carryout Chinese in general. Feels like they used to be on every corner but now they are dwindling. So before they vanish completely where are the best one’s left? Also, where’s the best carryout period?

“Dear PoPville,

Does anyone have any recommendations for local card shops? I used to work near 14th and loved Miss Pixie’s for quirky cards, but am now closer to Federal Triangle (aka a food/store/anything desert). Any recommendations for local card shops in this area or around town that I should explore?”
