Mandy asks: “Ok friends. Countdown has begun. What goes on the DC bucket list before I move to NC?? What say you @PoPville and community? Over a dozen years here I’ve done a lot but what is a MUST DO?! Ready, go.”

Ed. Note: The magnificent variety and breadth of the recs below is a good reminder that we take a lot for granted and are lucky to live in one of the greatest places on earth. A bit corny to write but straight up truth.

“Dear PoPville,

In A Pickle is shutting down in Eastern Market. He announced it on the Facebook page on 3/19 and it’s very sad to see it go! For me, like many, it was the main reason for going to eastern market on the weekends. Anyone know where to get these pickles and olives from now that he’s shutting down?

“Dear In a Pickle Fans,

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the closing of In A Pickle Company. We are grateful for the support of our customers over the past 14 years I have enjoyed meeting all you over those years. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if you could ask Popville readers for suggestions for a Thai restaurant that makes vegan curries (specifically green curry). For the past ten years I have been eating at the same Thai restaurant in DC thinking that the vegan green curry they made was actually vegan and found out that there is shrimp paste in the curry. Has anyone found a Thai restaurant that can make curry without shrimp paste? It is my favorite meal and really desperate for a replacement go-to Thai spot.”

Another reader asked more generally: “My go to thai spot on h street closed. Any recommendations for Thai in SE?”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m at a loss trying to find a great classic club or turkey club sandwich in DC. Nothing fancy, nothing with avocado. A classic club, toasty bread (3 layers), LT and mayo with fresh crispy bacon. I’m here for all the frilly toothpicks. Who’s got the best? HELP – Anonymous Club Lover”

Almost a year ago readers went on “a personal quest to find the best breakfast burrito in DC”.

Angela wrote: “UPDATE: The Hill Cafe (101 15th Street, NE) in DC has arguable the best breakfast burrito in all the land

Potato, scrambled egg, the good stuff. What threw it over the edge of amazing was the turkey bacon. Holy moly” (more…)
