“Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Department of Public Works (DPW) announced that the annual Christmas tree and holiday greenery collection will begin on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 and run through Saturday, March 2. Residents who live in DPW-serviced homes and buildings will be able to place their greenery curbside, either in front of their home or in the tree box, for collection. Trees and greenery collected between January 3 and March 2 will be turned into mulch for distribution to residents throughout 2024.

“During the Martin Luther King Day holiday weekend, starting on Friday, Jan. 12 through Monday, Jan. 15, Metro will close segments of the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines, between Foggy Bottom and Arlington Cemetery/Clarendon to perform infrastructure repairs and maintenance. The Rosslyn and Court House stations will be closed, and free shuttle buses will provide frequent service between all affected stations. (more…)

“Metro is reminding customers major construction on the Red Line will be extended beginning on Friday, Dec. 22 through Sunday, Dec. 24, with no Red Line service to Gallery Place and Judiciary Square stations, in addition to Farragut North and Metro Center currently. “Metro is reminding Red Line customers to plan ahead for the last two weeks of December. On Monday, December 18, our team will begin a two-week construction project on the Red Line to perform critical safety repairs to the tunnel and track infrastructure, upgrade signal and communications systems, and install new platform edge lights.

To complete the work safely and efficiently, there will be no Red Line service between Dupont Circle and Gallery Place from Monday, Dec. 18 through Saturday, Dec. 30. (more…)

“After weeks of certifying operators to use Automatic Door Operation on some Red Line trains, the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission gave its concurrence to allow Metro to fully operate in Auto Door mode on the Red Line starting today.

Customers will notice faster entries and exits on Red Line trains, causing doors to open within 3-5 seconds after the train stops on the station platform. The time saved per stop is around 10-15 seconds. (more…)
