“In anticipation of forecasted snowfall on Sunday, January 19, Mayor Muriel Bowser is deploying the District Snow Team tonight. At midnight, pre-treatment brine operations will begin on all snow emergency routes, including the National Highway System.

The National Weather Service is forecasting snowfall to begin on Sunday morning between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and to continue throughout the day with the potential for several inches of accumulation. Temperatures are expected to drop throughout the weekend, with the potential for single-digit wind chill temperatures on Monday, January 20. (more…)

“On Saturday, January 18, 2025, street closures and parking restrictions will begin for the 2025 Presidential Inauguration that motorists should take into consideration. District residents and business owners are asked to plan for widespread road closures across Downtown Washington. Most roads within the perimeter, bounded by the Potomac River to the west, K Street NW to the north, Second Street NE/SE to the east, and I-395/I-695 to the south will be closed or restricted residential traffic only. I purchased two pick-your-own-amount gift cards in December at the H St NE Giant and loaded them in store. The recipients just notified me that when they opened their (sealed) packaging, the numbers on the cards had been scratched off. (more…)


“Dear PoPville,

On Friday, January 10th, an Amazon delivery driver entered a lobby in the 3600 block of Connecticut Avenue, NW, a cooperative residential building. Shortly after, a second Amazon driver followed, taking advantage of the open door. Once the packages were delivered, the second driver lingered behind and texted an accomplice waiting in a car outside. The accomplice then entered the lobby, and together, the pair stole over 10 packages, loading them into the car before fleeing the scene.

The inauguration is a National Special Security Event (NSSE), a classification that brings federal and local partners together under the lead of the United States Secret Service. The NSSE designation allows significant federal, state, and local resources to be deployed, ensuring a robust security plan. “The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the District of Columbia, which is in effect from 10PM this evening until 7AM tomorrow.

WHAT: Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches.

IMPACTS: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions.

From DDOT:

“Today, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced additional Clear Lanes locations in the District. The Clear Lanes program is a joint initiative between Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and DDOT that aims to improve bus travel times and enhance bus stop safety by using camera technology to identify illegally parked and stopped vehicles in dedicated bus lanes and bus zones. The locations are traffic sites where data analysis has identified need for expanding sections of bus lanes.

Beginning Monday, January 27, 2025, DDOT will initiate a 45-day educational phase for the expansion of bus zone and bus lane enforcement. During this period, violators will receive warning citations. Following the educational phase, starting Monday, March 17, 2025, DDOT will begin issuing $100 fines to vehicle owners for bus zone and bus lane violations.
