“Dear PoPville,
I’m wondering if you might be able to help me right a wrong in my neighborhood that has proven difficult to address. We park on the street in Lanier heights, which is nestled between Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights and mount Pleasant. It can be a pain depending on when you are looking for a spot. (As an illustration: a couple weeks ago my wife had a spot stolen from her by some guy who then verbally berated her for being angry that he had stolen the spot she waited 10 minutes for. It took her 20 mins to find another spot)
There is a large parking spot outside of an apartment building called the Chalfonte. The spot in question is on the south side of Harvard where it intersects with Argonne Place, and is big enough to fit a small car and a smart car, a REALLY big car, or a big-ish car like a Jeep SUV and a motorcycle.
The issue is that I’ve noticed over the last few weeks that it is ALWAYS the same black jeep and the same motorcycle parked there. (more…)

This horse trailer has been parked on 10th St NE just North of K St for more than a week. It was moved once, but only a few feet. The truck towing it has DC tags, but the trailer has Maine tags. It’s taking up at least 2 spots (maybe 3) in an area with little parking to spare, but I assume it’s legal because enforcement MUST have seen it by now. I could see it being here for a day or two while someone moved in or out, but at this point, it seems they’re just storing it here, which is pretty obnoxious if you ask me. According to DC regs, it’s illegal to park a trailer on the street in front of a residence (18-2405.5). But a 311 report was rejected for no violation. Not sure what’s going on there.”

I was out of town last week and the emergency/moving parking permit signs for trucks were posted on the 24th, for a move on the 29th. From what I’m reading they’re only required to be posted 72 hours beforehand. I was ticketed $30 and towed (Able Towing on Eldwin NE – towed Saturday, they’re closed Sunday, arrived and waited 1.5hrs for a tow truck to free my car from being boxed in in their lot) $160. Looking for anyone’s advice on avoiding this in the future… or if it’s worth contesting the ticket?”

Since Enterprise car sharing closed shop, do we think this means their parking spaces across the city are open for public use? The cars and signs were taken from numerous locations across the city, all that remains is the logo on the cement.”

Found this crumpled up ticket on my street. Looked up if it was paid and saw this person is in for over $2,000 in fines yet never gets booted/towed. The odd part is this Virginian parks in the same neighborhood yet somehow is avoiding the boot.”

At this point we must recognize that the man gonna park where the man wanna park. Period.

I currently live and have my car registered in Zone 1 and recently renewed my parking permit for 2 years. I now unexpectedly have to move. Until I figure out where I am going long term, I have secured a sublet/temporary housing for 3 months which is in a different zone. How do I get a temporary parking permit for this zone for this period? The DC Gov website says that visitor parking is valid for only 15 days and regardless, it does not sound like I even qualify for their definition of a “visitor” . The rent I am paying to the owner is inclusive of utilities so I will not have any way to prove residence. Other than looking to rent a spot which I do not want to do, are there any ideas?”
