Update from DPW:
“The Department of Public Works takes locating scofflaw vehicles and getting them off the street seriously. Parking enforcement officers are trained to inspect all vehicles, including those with car covers. The use of a car cover does not exempt a vehicle from inspection, ticketing, or further enforcement actions. We also encourage residents to submit 311 requests if they see a vehicle in violation of the city’s parking laws. Such requests are all part of the process of identifying vehicles that may pose a danger to the community and maintaining safe and accessible streets for all.”

Following a series of parking enforcement actions in 16th Street Heights that results in a number of cars with thousands of dollars of tickets being towed, there is a proliferation of cars parked on the streets completely covered by tarps. Do you have any information on why roads all around Adams Morgan near Kalorama Triangle are restricted for parking?
It’s typical for small stretches of parking to be restricted for several days or longer, but for the past several weeks, large areas of most streets all over my neighborhood (Kalorama/Columbia/Belmont and surrounding roads) have been blocked. It’s becoming very difficult to find a parking space anywhere because. On any given day, 30-40% of roads have been restricted from parking with no explanation other than city ordinance.

The photos previously posted do not do the entire scene justice. The handmade No Parking sign replaced an actual No Parking sign put up by tree trimmers earlier in the week, but the tree trimmers themselves removed those signs once they were finished. The handmade signs sprung up two days later.
Attached are the photos of the signs reversed so you can read them. It’s worth it. (more…)
