From Calvert Woodley (4339 Connecticut Avenue, NW):
“On this day in 1982, two competitors, Calvert Liquors and Woodley Wine & Liquor, came together to create one liquor store that could do it all. But we wouldn’t still be here, 40 years later, without our loyal customers. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to continuing to serve you for many years to come.
We would also like to give special recognition to three remarkable individuals who’ve been here since day one; Ibrahim Ahmed, Tom McKnew and Berrisford Harris. (more…)

Fusion located at 4815 Georgia Ave, NW near Moroni and Bros. has long been one of my “new” favorite restaurants. I can hardly believe it has already been a year since they’ve opened. The owner, Barry, pictured above could be one of the nicest proprietors I’ve met (and I’ve been fortunate to meet many). Barry previously worked at Rasika and Bombay Club and has brought that quality of dining to Petworth. But more than just the great food, he has created a warm neighborhood spot where regular diners often greet each other like old friends. This was evidenced at the party thrown to celebrate the anniversary. It was filled with an amazingly friendly and diverse crowd. So congrats to Barry, his family and colleagues, and I look forward to many more years of quality dining at Fusion.

While the weather is pretty brutal, this is sure to be a killer party.

Chix, located at 2019 11th Street, celebrated their one year anniversary last weekend. I was happy to hear that but I was even happier to learn that they now offer delivery. They haven’t fully worked out how far they’ll deliver but roughly from the Howard University area to 18th Street and from Logan Circle to Columbia Heights. They are a bit flexible so if you live outside of those parameters (in lower Petworth for example) you should still give them a call. If you are dining in they are also offering $10 bottles of wine on Friday’s and Saturday’s from 8-10pm. Delivery is offered Monday to Friday from 6pm to 9:30pm. No charge for the delivery, but the minimum is just $10. Call to find out if they deliver to you 202.234.2449.
Congrats Chix!

Red Derby, arguably the best bar in the city, has turned one year old. I think owners Dave and Sasha should be the model for anyone who wants to open up a successful local business. They have truly embraced the neighborhood model and could not be nicer people. How often does the owner of a bar hug nearly every patron upon arrival? I wish them congratulations and much success in the future.
They will be celebrating their birthday tonight at Red Derby located at 3718 14th St. NW.

Redeem the clothing store at 1734 14th Street will be celebrating its two year anniversary with “a little nosh” as well as artwork by local artist Johanna Mueller (pictured above). The celebration will take place Sunday October, 19 from 1:30 – 3:30. Should be pretty cool.
Congrats to Redeem on their anniversary!
