“Dear PoPville,
I’d like to thank the incredibly kind lady who screeched to a halt as she was driving through the intersection of New Hampshire and Gallatin NW on Thursday evening (July 28) at 10:45pm to encourage me to get into her car as we both heard several loud pop sounds that we think were gunshots. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Yesterday, I forgot my roll-on bag on the Metro in the crush of the Caps parade crowd. It had my work-issued laptop and notebooks in it. I realized it as soon as the train left the station at Foggy Bottom, and ran to the station manager. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Thank you to everyone that wrote in with recommendations, $ donation offers, bike donations and beyond to help me find a bike for an amazing young man in need. A huge THANK YOU to Gerald Stevens on donating his bike and even doing a special delivery to me in DC during a road closure Saturday.
Here is Justin in all of his glory on his “new” bike about to make a delivery. He was speechless, beyond grateful and promised that he will make sure to pay it forward. If you see him cruising around the city, say what’s up!
Remember DC – we can make a difference… no matter how small!”
Ed. Note: And a huge thanks to Melissa for making this all happen!!

“Dear PoPville,
Our sweet (and diabetic) yellow lab had a severe and unexpected seizure in Meridian Hill Park. It was so sad and panicky for me and I felt absolutely helpless. A few fellow dog owners stepped in with incredible kindness and generosity. Specifically, a huge thank you to the woman who gave us her dog’s food after we went through the extra treats I had brought and ran across the street to get more treats to help bring her out of her shock, and to the woman who called us an Uber from her account. I don’t know what I would have done without you.
We’re at the vet’s now and she’s stabilizing, largely due to the kindness of others. We’d love to reimburse the Uber cost and to say thanks (extra treats for their dogs that lost some of their playtime)! Can you help us get in touch?”
Please email [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with OP.

“Dear PoPville,
While I was running this morning, I got hit by a car. She didn’t see me at an intersection. I am banged up but nothing terrible. I’m writing you because I hope the people who helped me will read this. A woman running as well (she introduced herself as Gigi) turned around and scooped me up off the ground. She hugged me so hard and just let me cry on her. The kindness of this complete stranger floored me. She is an incredible human, and we need more of her in this world. Several others stopped to help. One woman called my husband and gave me her coat, another rushed to her house to get blankets. It’s easy to get caught up in the political gloom that looms over our city right now, but there are good, actually great, individuals out there, and I am so thankful some of them were there to help me out this morning.”

“Dear PoPville,
I wanted to say thank you to the two men who intervened and stood-up for me on my metro commute this morning [Tuesday]. We were on the first train car heading from Chinatown to Farragut North (red line) at around 8:40 and you stopped a very aggressive man from accosting me and yelling at me repeatedly that I was a “f**king b**ch who thinks I’m better than him”. I didn’t get the chance to properly say thank you – so if you are reading this just know you were both so kind and understanding! Thank you and I hope your commute was much less eventful afterwards.”

Thanks to Anna for passing on from the Brightwood Listserv:
“Fellow Neighbors,
I found a Knoxville College class of 1985 graduation ring on the streets of downtown DC, near the Washington Monument, next to a food truck tire.
The name engraved on the interior says, Cheryl A. Essex.
Through simple research, I found that Cheryl may have been a law enforcement officer, is originally from Washington, DC but currently lives in Maryland.
Since DC is a huge networking society, I decided to reach out on here.
I’m hoping this message can be shared, or tips can be given.
I know what it’s like to lose something valuable.
I want to give her the ring back!
Help me find her!
Best,
Emily”
If you are/know Cheryl please email [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with Emily.

“Dear PoPville,
Its that time of year again! We are collecting handmade holiday cards for the residents of the Old Soldiers Home/ Armed Forces Retirement home here in DC. If you know an adult, office, child, daycare, or school that would be interested in making holiday cards to bring some joy to these individuals who have spent years or a lifetime in service to all of us, please spread the word and help us hand out a card to every retired soldier we can this holiday season. Last year we handed out over 600 hugely appreciated holiday cards from all over the country. The cards are delivered along with some hugs, singing and lots of holiday cheer. (more…)
