1214 18th Street, NW

On October 18th I posted some scuttlebutt about a likely Chick Fil A location here. There were MANY opinions.

Thanks to all who messaged the confirmation from Washington Business Journal:

“The fast-food poultry purveyor has signed a 15-year lease — with 14 years of optional extensions — with an affiliate of Douglas Development Corp. for 1214 18th St. NW, a couple blocks south of Dupont Circle.”

Ed. Note: One day I will find out what WBJ has on the Jemal family/Douglas Development Corp. Kidding, kidding. Kinda.

Standby for an opening date and the upcoming Chicken Wars with Nando’s down the block.

1301 U Street, NW

Off this one hurts. From TaKorean:

“TaKorean will be closing its U Street location this afternoon. This particular space wasn’t the right fit for the business at this time. We continue to thrive at our three other locations in DC and we recently expanded to Philadelphia in the newly renovated Bourse Food Hall. We will continue to look for other growth opportunities in the DC metro area in 2019.”

This TaKorean opened in April 2017. Previously this space was home to U Street Cafe and Mocha Hut before them. Updates when we learn what becomes of the space.

1214 18th Street, NW

Good news for chicken heads. My sources deep in the fast casual chicken world have a juicy tidbit for us today – Chick-Fil-A cometh to 18th Street. I’m hearing 1214 18th Street, NW (near Nando’s buckle up son) and Eighth Street Lounge, Shake Shack etc. It’s not clear exactly which space it’s taking, not sure if the Rabbit Hole fell through or if the  Eritrean Cultural & Civic Center is being split. These spaces were formerly home to MIA Lounge, Lupe Mexican Cantina and Sesto Senso

Anyway I give this scuttlebutt an 87% accuracy rating.

STAY TUNED.
