Thanks to Jake for sending word:

“Went to get some much needed late night Chinese food last night at my favorite sit down Chinatown spot and was greeted with some very sad news! Ming’s in Chinatown has closed.”

“FORTHCOMING CLOSURE OF MING’S

As many of you are aware, we have lost our lease due to the upcoming redevelopment of the property. (more…)

Jennifer reports:

“signage up for Streets Market in Cleveland Park. Spoke with an employee entering store who said they will open on Monday, June 11. He let me peek in: bright & clean with freezers & shelves already stocked. Looking good!”

And as you can see in the photo above, they’ll also be selling beer and wine.

Ed. Note: I hear they could be soft opening as early as this weekend!

Gonna take a minute to get used to the new signage. RIP Brookville. (more…)

Well this is just awful. From Hot Jazz Saturday Night’s Facebook Saturday Night:

“In the likely (and understandable) event you were watching the Caps play tonight instead of listening to HJSN, I wanted to share with you that WAMU announced earlier this evening a slate of upcoming program changes. Among them is the cancellation of Hot Jazz Saturday Night. My last broadcast will be on June 23rd. You can find a link to the station’s press release on the home page, www.wamu.org.

The station will be moving LIVE FROM HERE, the successor to A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION, to air 8:00-10:00, followed by LIVE WIRE, at 10:00 P.M. Judy Carmichael’s JAZZ INSPIRED will be replaced with an additional hour of news from the BBC. (more…)

Thanks to Lila for passing on this very sad retail news:

“Beadazzled Dupont Circle closing June 23

We are very sad to be closing Beadazzled in DC. It was our first store, my baby, built with sweat equity and funded by bead sales from my home over the summer of 1989. For 29 years our amazing team has loved you, and we’ve been grateful to be loved by you. We’ve watched 10-year-old customers, and some of our teen-aged summer staffers grow up to bring their own children into Beadazzled. You’ve helped us through good times and bad, and we hope we’ve done the same for you. (more…)

Thanks to Bootsy for sending. We Judged Ezme to positive reviews way back in 2010. Leziz’s website says:

“Specializing in Turkish Home-Made Healthy Dishes for Every Taste and Palette”

Check out their menu here.

Ed. Note: Appears to be from the owners of Ezme as ezmedc.com redirect to Leziz. Also of note – they’ll be open for lunch too!

A reader writes:

“Brass Monkey on 18th has apparently closed, from an employee who works there. It has been a fun 26 years.”

Now it’s quite possible that I haven’t been to the Brass Monkey in approximately 16 years.

Nevertheless, they had a pool table. And I played a million games at that pool table back in the day. So I shall keep nothing but my fond memories, should the closure to be true.

Perhaps it will be like the great Dan’s Cafe scare of 2015. But I don’t think so. I’m told from another source that Spaghetti Garden downstairs from Brass Monkey has also closed and that something very interesting is coming. STAY TUNED. Updates when more is known.

UPDATE: Thanks to all who messaged about the Metro Weekly story:

“Pitchers, a new LGBTQ sports bar, will open in Adams Morgan in June. David Perruzza, the longtime manager of JR.’s Bar, has signed a 10-year lease for a building that for years housed Adams Morgan mainstays, Spaghetti Garden, Roxanne Restaurant, and Peyote Karaoke Cafe.”
