hahaha thanks to Stephanie for sending: “While I’m in a bit of awe that ratchet straps have been holding this house together for a year, I thought it was about time to turn it into a meme.”

From DDOT:
“Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced that by September 1, residents will have nearly 22 miles of DC Slow Streets to practice safe social distancing while walking, biking, and rolling in neighborhoods across the District.
“We have already heard great feedback about the initial five miles of Slow Streets that were installed earlier this summer,” said DDOT Director Jeff Marootian. “The approximately 17 miles that we will add over the next several weeks are critical to Mayor Bowser’s vision to reimagine public space during the COVID-19 public health emergency.”
All DC Slow Streets are installed on local streets (typically with no centerline marked); without any bus routes and are generally linked to parks or other places to bike and walk. Once installed, DC Slow Streets are restricted to local traffic and the speed limit is set at 15 miles per hour to support neighborhood-based safe social distancing while walking, running, rolling, or cycling.
Installation will begin the week of August 10, and is expected to be completed by September 1 in the following locations: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I am supposed to be traveling very soon and yesterday started experiencing muscle soreness and other potential COVID symptoms. I want to get a test but there are so many reports of tests taking 2-3 weeks!!
I haven’t knowingly been exposed, but I want to keep my family, other people on the planes, etc safe and of course don’t want to travel if I am sick. I would just cancel, but it’s not a vacation/leisure trip. I really have to go unless I’m sure I have COVID.
What are people’s latest experiences with firehouse testing turn around times? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
While I don’t blame parents for looking for help in this tough time & there are plenty of postings that are giving fair offers and fair expectations, I feel like folks out there posting ridiculous ads like this one need to be called out.
A family looking for an experienced ECE teacher WITH an eduation degree for $24/hour in the middle of the day to give 2 children personalized instruction (and in the future, watch an infant child) is both insulting and a total disregard of a teacher’s worth. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
We’ve sadly seen Sichuan Pavilion- our favorite Sichuan restaurant around hands down- has not reopened yet, even for takeout- we call pretty much every week (desperate!) and get a message that they are still closed. Has anyone heard anything about this wonderful spot? Hoping they are OK, but this extended shutdown has us worried.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I’m in an old rowhome, and while the sound between neighbors with our brick walls is fine, we have bedrooms on top of each other where you can hear EVERYTHING.
I’m determined to find a solution and I’m curious if anyone has added insulation between their ceilings and floors and if they had success?
Because most old ceiling/walls are plaster in DC, I’ve been told by contractors that adding insulation can be dangerous as plaster will attract too much moisture. (more…)
