1443 P Street, NW (from happier times before the closures, obviously)

From an email:

“Commissary, the casual American concept from EatWell DC, re-opens for takeout and delivery on Wednesday, May 20th at 1443P St NW. The restaurant has been closed for the past 2 months and has undergone a top to bottom cleaning and menu evolution. The casual all-day spot has retailored the menu to better serve the take-out and delivery market while retaining all the fan favorites.

“We waited until we had a better understanding of the situation and could formulate a plan of safety for our team and our guests. We have great people who want to get back to work and providing that opportunity, carefully, has been a goal since we closed. It is important for us to be your neighborhood “go to”. We wanted to be there for the community, but our team’s health and safety had to come first. Now that we have a safe plan, we felt it was time to reemerge” says principal owner David Winer

Chef Tom Crenshaw has been brainstorming for weeks and the new breakfast and lunch menu offers more sandwich options like Pastrami and Grill Vegetables as well as breakfast sandwiches like Panini and Fried Chicken with eggs while still offering classics like Blueberry Pancakes and Patty melts. Bullfrog Bagels and La Colombe coffee are also still available for take-out and Delivery. Dinner options will preserve the beloved Herb Roasted Chicken, Crispy Skin Salmon and Fish & Chips while adding what’s sure be a new fav, Hot Chicken and family style meals (for 4) that have options for Salads, Entrees, Sides and Desserts at a super reasonable neighborhood price. You can look forward to pop up specials from our Eatwell DC sister restaurants as well.

Cocktails, including Frose, Bloodies and Mimosas (by glass & pitcher), Beer, Wine (bottles and cans) will be offered (more…)

Thanks to Kari for sending: “I live down the street from Nina May and have seen my fair share of restaurants open and close (I am looking at you “The Bird ” and “Frenchy’s Naturel“) any way, looks like Nina May is now open for coffee, breakfast and lunch and I really want them to succeed. It is a tough corner with not too much foot traffic.”

From a press release:

“After a successful launch in the Fall, Shaw’s New American restaurant Nina May has introduced a daytime café within the restaurant. Open Monday – Friday, from 7 am – 2 pm, the café’s menu reflects the team’s continued dedication to locally sourced and sustainable food ingredients. (more…)

Big news from the Georgetown BID:

“Oh, Bagelgate. What a time to be alive! After a few delays, Call Your Mother is expected to open in Georgetown by the end of this month. Everyone BE COOL! From Cracked Eggery:

“We are beyond pumped to launch this truck on NYE! Our 24hr store announcement is coming soon which will be our first location. Our customers have been begging us to sell more often so we felt it was the right time to launch a food truck even with the brick and mortar on the horizon. We will have a regular schedule for the truck of mornings as well as late nights coming soon. Instagram and Twitter will be the best source for truck updates @crackedeggery”

1831 Columbia Road, NW

is the same thing I ate last year. What can I say, I’m a creature of habit – though I did also have a top notch meal at Tail Up Goat this year. Anyway back to this year’s honor – the Bronx Pastrami sandwich reins supreme again – congratulations to So’s Your Mom once again. Forever and always.

What’s the best thing you guys ate this year?

11th and Lamont St, NW

From La Tejana:

“Following last week‘s sold out event at Room 11, La Tejana’s Tex-Mex breakfast taco pop-up is returning tomorrow (Saturday 12/14 from 10 am – sellout) with a double batch of homemade flour tortillas, chorizo, migas, papas con huevo and boozy topo chico. Because holiday shopping is better when slightly buzzed and three breakfast tacos deep…

Shout out to everyone who came out last weekend (and waited patiently for their tacos – shorter wait times are guaranteed this weekend). Might even be a surprise or two in store”

Anyone take a taste last week?
