Well this is amazing. Thanks to a reader for sending.

“Myself and two friends decided to build it one weekend as a display for our holiday party.”

Awesome.

Now I’m not one who gets easily excited by new… ok, just kidding, I get very excited about new openings all the time. Having said that Right Proper is the real freaking deal. I believe this has the potential to be the coolest thing to come to Shaw since Duke Ellington used to hang out here. And I’ll be honest, I meet a lot of nice people opening places. A few are a bit douchey but the vast majority are extremely nice. The guys behind Right Proper are the nicest of the nice. It’s hard to explain, and you’ll get it immediately when you meet them, but they just have a genuineness and kindness without pretense that makes you want to root for them. And the fact that this is a brew pub makes me want to root for them even more. Fortunately as you’ll soon see from the photos – they don’t need my rooting – this place is already awesome and it’s opening December 10th (if all goes according to plan, knock wood, knock wood.)

We will revisit when all is cleaned up but this will give you a taste of the space. There is room for 155. When you walk in you’ll see a small bar, another small bar then in the back a large bar with a view into the brewing area. The back will also have proper tables. There will be 6 right proper brews and two guest taps that will rotate. And you can buy beer to go! And murals. And awesome details. Well have a look:

“Dear PoPville,

We were just running on the C&O Path and when stopping back in Georgetown by one of the foot bridges; we were stretching and I looked down into a flower bed and saw a bunch of three leaf clovers. I then joked and said I am gonna find a four leaf clover because I have never found one. Then just before we wee going to walk away I saw a clover that looked strange. At first I thought it was just two three leaf clovers stuck together. Looking closer I realized it was actually a five leaf clover!

I noticed there was a news article of a young girl finding one in the UK so I guess it is pretty rare. 1 in 20,000.”

To be located on 14th Street just north of T Street

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if you know what the status of the Trader Joe’s that is supposed to come to the Louis at 14 complex? Previous reporting said the end of the year but I walk by that place often and it doesn’t look close to complete. With winter approaching I wonder if it will be pushed back to next year.”

Great news from the folks at Louis at 14th – they tell me that Trader Joe’s has begun their build out of the space. If all goes well they will most likely open up in February. Trader Joe’s will be located in the space right next to Taylor Gourmet (in photo above) and will incorporate the old El Paraiso restaurant facade into their store. I’m also told they will use some of the old bricks for an exposed brick wall in the northern part of the store. February can’t come soon enough!

“Really, @DDOTDC “Potworth”? What are you trying to say?!?”

Ah too good.

This comes from – DDOT to host public meetings for North-South Corridor Planning Study:

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT)is initiating a planning study to examine opportunities for public transportation improvements in the North-South corridor through the District of Columbia and will host the first round of public meetings starting in November.

The study area is focused on a 9-mile, north-south corridor that connects the Takoma/Silver Spring area to the Buzzard Point/Southwest Waterfront area. The study area extends east-west from about 16th Street on the west to approximately one-quarter mile east of Georgia Avenue. (more…)

Sometimes I say holy cow after visiting a new spot but that is simply not strong enough for this preview – a holy shit is required. Holy shit this place is awesome. The eagerly anticipated Bluejacket Brewery had a preview party last night and as expected the place is jaw dropping. Bluejacket is actually the name of the brewery – the restaurant and bar inside will be called The Arsenal (the building was part of a munitions manufacturing complex.)  It opens on Tuesday though if you live in the neighborhood keep your ears open for a neighborhood preview before then.

Here are some facts about the space:

As always the photos do more justice than any words (though more background details are provided after the jump.) But to be honest these photos don’t even do justice to how cool the space is.  I highly recommend you check it out in the next six months before baseball season starts when this place is likely to get smashed crowded.  Two of my favorite beers from last night were the Forbiden Planet Kolsch and the Bombshell Belgian Blond Ale.  I seriously can’t wait to go back and try some more.
