From a press release:

“Friends of Screen on the Green, along with HBO and Comcast, are proud to announce Screen on the Green’s summer line up. This year’s film festival kicks off on Monday, July 21 with a showing of the 1984 classic “The Karate Kid.”

The free outdoor event will continue with screenings on Monday evenings at sunset through August 11 with movies shown on a giant 20’ by 40’ screen between 7th and 12th Streets on the National Mall.

The lineup for Screen on the Green 2014 is:

July 21 – The Karate Kid (1984)
July 28 – Lover Come Back (1961)
August 4 – Key Largo (1948)
August 11 – A Soldier’s Story (1984)”

Seriously!?!? HBO is a partner and they couldn’t have gotten a movie from this Decade into the mix? It seems like outdoor movie series in DC are either avoiding copyright laws or they have an inclination to pre-Jim-Crow movies… It’s discouraging.

Yeah, movies from this decade are obviously the only good ones.

  • Oh Sweet Thing

…I feel like I’m missing something here.

That is a pretty lackluster lineup. I’d go to Screen on the Green much more often if they would get better movies.
