From a press release:
“Winter may just have begun, but The Royal is transforming LeDroit Park into a tropical oasis for the latest edition of its monthly industry night series, on Monday, January 11 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. One special night devoted to South American Tiki cocktails. Royal Knights: “Kon Tiki” edition will feature the exotic creations of guest bartender Lukas B. Smith ranging from Bolivian brandy-topped Scorpion Bowls, Pisco-filled fruits and shaved ice cocktails, plus island flicks on the projector and other tropical surprises.
Inspired by Kon Tiki, the famous 1947 expedition which took Norwegian explorer and writer Thor Heyerdahl from South America to the Polynesian islands, The Royal will showcase lesser-known South American spirits in classic and original Polynesian-themed cocktails. Spirits such as Rujero Singani, a Bolivian brandy, Avua and Boca Loca cachacas, El Dorado and Ministry of Rum Collection rums imported from Guyana and more will be highlighted in cocktails throughout the evening. “Dear PoPville,
We had a bit of fun with our windows in the office after our holiday party at 2000 L St NW. We’ve had a lot of love (and more specifically, facebook “like” symbols out of Post-Its) from the neighboring office buildings.

Sometimes when you work in the pretty dull downtown DC, you need something to liven it up!”

For non tribe members – a mikva is also “a bath used for the purpose of ritual immersion in Judaism”. So I was dying to know what the challenge was about…
Turns out it’s another type of immersion – from Mikva Challenge DC:
“Modeled after the successful civic engagement programming developed for youth in Chicago, Mikva Challenge DC provides opportunities for young people in DC to engage in action civics and community problem solving, and seeks to increase youth voice in local decision making processes.”
Very, very cool indeed!!

From an email:
“The DC Public Library has released a new video highlighting their artistic and cultural programs – including concerts, the maker-space and even dance parties – as part of their #LoveDCPLGive campaign. The music featured is by local band, Puff Pieces.
The video showcases many of the fun and interesting events they have put on this year in effort to become a central part of D.C.’s burgeoning art scene. DCPL has something to offer everyone in the community ranging from babies who attend story time to artists who perform at live shows to seniors looking to acquire computer skills. With the video the library hopes to encourage District residents to give back to the city and their city’s library by making a contribution to DCPL, which they can do here.”

From an email:
“Since opening Slash Run we have done two events with the Soldier’s Home – one at the Soldier’s Home for a happy hour and one at Slash as a fundraiser for them.
We loved doing both and it got us to thinking about how much more we should get involved and supportive of the community as a whole.
So, in 2016 we’re starting to have fundraiser nights at Slash Run for any non-profit, arts or theater organizations, food banks, etc. If people are interested in participating they can email me at [email protected].
Here are the details:
Sunday-Thursday evening/night
We promote/they promote
15% of Sales from that night go to the organization (they get the benefit of whatever sales we would have naturally done)
Pretty simple
We’ve done this up at Sidebar over the years and it has been great.
Also, starting tonight BURGERS ARE HALF PRICE ON MONDAYS AT SLASH RUN!
All night at the bar and after 7pm in the dining room. Must purchase a drink. Not available for take out.”

From the Hill East Listserv and ANC Rep. Denise Krepp:
“Proceeds from the sale will be given to the Department of Justice to offset the costs associated with providing us with prosecution data for every ward in the city for the past five years.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) is charging $40 an hour to find this information. Hopefully, they can find this information quickly. Too many crimes are occurring on Capitol Hill and only a small percentage of individuals involved in these crimes are being prosecuted. As residents of Capitol Hill, we deserve to know why this occurring.
