At long last – Kathmandu has arrived, all the info:
“A new cocktail-driven destination is set to debut on U Street. Opening Wednesday, May 6th, Kathmandu – Tapas & Cocktails introduces an intimate, design-forward concept from restaurateur Dipesh Acharya—blending the energy of Nepal’s capital city with Washington, DC’s evolving nightlife scene.
Positioned first and foremost as a craft cocktail bar inspired by the Himalayas, Kathmandu pairs an innovative beverage program with a focused menu of elevated Nepali tapas—creating a space where drinks, culture, and atmosphere take center stage. (more…)

Your summer nights are about to get a lot more adventurous. Beginning June 27th, join us after hours at the National Geographic Museum of Exploration for a brand-new series of evening events. Here’s a first look at what’s coming up:
Celebrate the Museum of Exploration’s Grand Opening with a one-night-only, after-hours marketplace inspired by street festivals, night markets and bazaars around the world.
This FREE event will feature live music and DJ sets that bring the museum to life, along with food and beverage for purchase from international street food vendors and outdoor bars. Plus, hear from a National Geographic photographer on the fascinating stories behind their work.
Gather with friends, explore flavors from around the world, dance to live music under starlight and explore in a whole new way.
Exhibition Showcases are special evening events that bring National Geographic exhibitions to life through storytelling, conversation and performance. This summer we celebrate our premier exhibition, “Red, White & Blue”.
The evening will begin with a cocktail reception in Explorers Eatery alongside talks from featured Explorers and photographers. You will then explore our photography galleries for an exclusive private viewing. The experience will culminate with live performance inspired by the exhibition on view, offering time to explore the work in a unique way.
These celebrations end with FREE access to the Courtyard Nighttime Experience.
You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or celebrate things about daily life in D.C.

On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the National Archives will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the country’s founding, steps away from the original Declaration of Independence, on Constitution Avenue.
For more than 50 years, the National Archives has held its annual Fourth of July program, and this year the tradition continues with historical reenactors and a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence. Additional free family-friendly activities include a chance to meet reenactors portraying the Founding Fathers and Mothers, live musical performances, face painting, t-shirt giveaways, balloon artists, arts and crafts, and more.
For those unfamiliar with this awesome tidbit of history, see some photos of Netwon’s tree and a wild statue before it was fenced off. It’s located in International Park behind the Chinese Embassy in Van Ness.
The park has had every entrance to it fenced off since at least 2023. Nobody’s ever given a reason why beyond claims of repairs, which apparently are still happening… (more…)
The other day I was thinking to myself, I wish there were a way to penalize improper parking for rental e-bikes and scooters. Welp, turns out there is, and I just found my new hobby!
Illegally parked e-bikes and scooters are an annoyance for pedestrians, and for those using wheelchairs and others with mobility issues, I’m sure it’s a huge pain in the ass, and extremely inconsiderate.
Can we start something, PoPville friends? Once a week (or as often as you want if you’re ambitious), report an improperly parked vehicle. The user can get fined. Maybe if it happens a few times, people start to change behavior? (I know, I know, I can hope…)
