Thanks to Andrea for passing on the incredibly sad news from Twins Jazz:

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve the Jazz community in Washington, DC for 33 years. We came to this country from Ethiopia with a dream of owning our own business and for 33 years we have done more than we could have ever imagined. The decision to close was very difficult, however, we knew the safety of our patrons, musicians, and our staff was our top priority, and given the uncertainty of when we could safely open our doors, we decided to close our location permanently. Dear PoPville

3420 14th Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

I got a covid test at the Columbia Heights fire station this week and could not recommend the experience more! I was completely surprised with how efficient the setup was and how not invasive the test was- they only put the swab about 1/2 inch up my nose and my brain is still intact! I arrived about 15 minutes before they “opened” and was on my way home about 15 minutes after the line began moving.

I know that DC says I should get my results in 3-5 business days but was hoping to hear how long other readers waited for results, especially if they were tested recently.

City Ride

Thanks to Eric P for sharing these awesome shots: “The classic car enthusiast in my building brought home a real beauty today! Looks like a 1930 Marquette Model 34 Roadster. This 90 year old ride looks amazing… love it!” (more…)

Park View

2851 Georgia Ave, NW

Thanks to Owen for passing on the sad news:

“Devastated to see a “for rent” sign in what used to be Sweetpea’s Soul Food on Georgia Ave. Their sign has also been removed from the establishment. Do you know anything more? Last I communicated with them on Instagram a few months ago, they indicated just being temporarily closed.”

gardening

Thanks to Charlene for sending: “Cleveland Park grown okra, Shishito, tomatoes and melons! All grown organically in the Melvin Hazen community garden…a five year waiting list makes this haul even sweeter.”

Please send your hauls to [email protected] and let me know what neighborhood it was grown in. Entries will be accepted through Labor Day weekend.

Crime

“Dear PoPville,

Hi! I live in the 14th & U area of NW and over the past year have had several instances of my car window being smashed open for break-ins. I do not have anything of value in my car and generally do not leave anything out on the seats or anything. I’ve began to wonder if people sometimes just leave their cars unlocked to prevent the hassle/expense of dealing with a broken window – was wondering if the community had any suggestions!!”
