Dating

“Dear PoPville,

Are there restaurants/bars that are doing well with following outdoor dining guidelines (e.g. only two or three walls so air still flows) that also have larger tables or spacious enough seating areas for dates with strangers or meetups with friends outside your pod so you can keep your social distance? The days of park hangs appear to be over.”

Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by a volunteer who compiles these pets weekly from local shelters.

Pig is a special kitten who is guaranteed to brighten your day. This little girl loves life and all she wants is playtime and snuggles. She is obsessed with her doggie best friend and is actively trying to win over the resident kitties. Pig enjoys lounging around watching tv and trying to steal the remote. Pig has a super soft black coat and a very loud purr motor when she is getting pets. When you are not hanging out playing with her she likes to watch what you are doing and will give the cutest little chirps and trills to get your attention.

Pig was born with a neurological disorder called cerebellar hypoplasia that affects her coordination. She has trouble standing up and walking unsupported, but she is determined to keep trying. Pig flops and wobbles to get to everything she is interested in. If she wants to get somewhere in a hurry she flings herself around with surprising speed. Kittens and cats who are born with this disorder do not know they are any different than other cats and are often described as having the sweetest personalities. Pig certainly lives up to that description and just wants to give and receive all the love. Pig will need a special adopter who is willing to help her maintain and strengthen her muscles as she grows and who is able to provide a safe environment for her care. If that could be you, please email [email protected]!

Are you a fan of thrash metal music? Love a set of electric drums, or perhaps you live next to the biggest fireworks display of the year? Not the ideal home setting for most dogs but if you’re also the loudest snorer you know, not only will Piglet not mind – he will challenge you for the title!

Piglet is deaf. But that’s not his only superpower. He is also blessed with the ability to read faces, understand hand signals and has a super-canine powered sniffer that can detect a hot dog at 100 meters. His ‘drop and wiggle’ move for human cuddles is unrivalled although he doesn’t always appreciate that at 90lbs, he’s not the ideal lap dog.

He needs a calm, adult only home without children as he can be easily startled and when excited becomes a well-intentioned wrecking ball! Despite his sweet nature, he needs an experienced dog owner who can continue to help him blossom into the best possible version of himself and make sure he meets new people slowly to build his trust. Taking Piglet home will have to be a gradual process so we are looking for a special person that is open and willing to invest the time needed to get to know and understand him before transitioning to a new home.

He walks great on leash and does well with other dogs out on walks and in playgroup. Piglet’s quirks are also his most endearing qualities. In the words of the original Piglet, ‘The things that make me different are the things that make me, me’!

If you are interested in meeting Piglet, email [email protected]

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to reach out to see what other companies in the DC area are doing for company events and virtual activities? Given that were 10 months into this and the Zoom Happy Hour has been long overdone, I’m wondering if there’s any cool events people have done with their colleagues? I especially would love events with DC based companies or businesses doing the event service. My company thus far has done a Sake Tasting with Izakaya Seki (highly recommend!), some workout classes with trainers from Rumble, and plans to do a yoga class with Epic Yoga. All virtual! Any other events people have done? Would love to hear ideas!”

“Dear PoPville,

Where can I drop off oyster shells for recycling? I’ve got tons left over from New Year’s Eve and I bet I’m not the only one with this question. I tried calling a couple of the fish markets at the Wharf and Hank’s Oyster Bar but they said they’re not doing oyster shell collection during the pandemic. Does anyone know somewhere collecting? And if there isn’t anywhere, would it be better for the environment to dump them in the trash or in the Anacostia?”

We’re doing everything we can to make it to the other side. We’re investing heavily in our people and our space – staying open, keeping everyone employed and together, and completing construction on our new wood-fire kitchen. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

All of the telephone poles on Reno Road from Nebraska south to about Van Ness have these yellow grids. I’ve only seen them in daylight, but they don’t seem to be reflective. Do they mean “I am a telephone pole: don’t hit me with your car”?”
