Frederick Nunley writes:

“This hawk was dining on a small bird in our front yard a while back when my partner and I returned home from shopping. Not 15 feet from our front door it watched us unload and go inside then I returned and stood as close as possible to get some good shots with my camera. People were passing by not seeing it until we pointed it out. So they are all around if you take the time to look up and observe local wildlife birds especially. Directly across from Turkey Thicket Playground.”

UPDATE From the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service:

“As a side note, this falcon was seen before in DC last year. She in fact is not a pure peregrine falcon. She is a hybrid cross and most likely a lost falconry bird.”

Thanks to Hillary from POLITICO for sending these shots from last week “we watched this falcon tear apart a pigeon on our patio furniture for 30 minutes.”

With word of the peak Cherry Blossom blooms coming early this year, so to comes our annual reminder from the DC Beekeepers:

“Spring is here and honeybees sometimes go searching for new homes. They (and we) could really use your help. If you see a swarm of bees, please call or text (202) 255-4318 or email [email protected] and and a team of DC beekeepers will spring into action to give house-searching honeybees the home they are looking for! Insecticides will not take care of your situation, but we can.”
