The sighting was reported on the Cleveland Park Listserv Wednesday afternoon:

“Saw a huge coyote run across Woodley Road into Tregaron today about noon. It looked like a small wolf – I thought it was a deer at first. These actually mated with wolves on their way east through Canada.”

This is not the first sighting in the Cleveland Park area. Also, back in 2014 a dog was attacked by coyotes in Rock Creek Park near the Golf Course. And last August a reader thought they spotted a Coywolf in SW.

I saw one running across Park Road in Mt. Pleasant in about 2009. It was… arresting.

There was an interesting PBS Nature documentary on coywolves a few years ago. Trailer:

Fascinating. There used to be coyotes (along with all sort of giant bugs and my personal favorite, tiny little lizards) at my college during certain times of the year. It’s a good reminder to keep your eyes peeled and your pets leashed.

I wonder what the coyotes in Rock Creek Park near the zoo think when the lions are being noisy.

  • Andrew.

He was probably looking for the Road Runner.

Shhh … it’s a great neighborhood secret place. (The name is originally Welsh, if I remember correctly.)

I live nearby and heard some howl/cries at night a few weeks back that sounded like they were from such an animal – I’m guessing they were!

Maybe it was Havoc?! Is he still missing?

    Yay, that many fewer rats.
