“Dear PoPville,

Over the last month+ I’ve noticed an embassy at Connecticut and Kalorama has regularly engaged a security detail to stop right-of-way traffic on Kalorama allowing a stream of vehicles to exit their private parking garage all heading in separate directions, not a motorcade. Is this legal?”

“Is this really necessary? or is the DC government just looking for a quick way to get $100 from us?”

We recently received a flyer from the DC Department of Buildings, inviting us to convert our home from being a “tax lot” to a “lot of record”. They make it sound like this will make it easier/cheaper to get permits sometime in the future…? (more…)

What flag (right hand side) was flying in this motorcade yesterday?

“Dear PoPville,

Saw a convoy of 9 black SUVs (6 Chevy’s and 2 Cadillacs, plus a black Dodge SUV, motorcycles, and Capitol police SUVs) turn into Rayburn yesterday morning around 10am and realized I didn’t recognize the flag (right hand side of photo.)

I thought this mystery flag might be a fun one to crowdsource because it has me stumped. I checked countries, countries that wish to be recognized, tribal flags (the coolest by far of all the searches), Canadian Provinces, US states, US territories, OPEC, the Pope, US Cabinet agencies, and even some corporare flags. I also reached out to a college friend that is an Economist in Africa and has traveled extensively on the Continent. She didn’t recognize either.

Maybe I missed something obvious? But now this mystery is bugging friends far and wide and they are hoping for an answer. Perhaps an insider who knows the schedule yesterday (Jan 31 2023) will help?”
