hahaha this is great – thanks to a reader for catching and sending:

“Caught WMATA getting a bit philosophical with their NextBus notifications today! Hopefully they figure this out soon.”

via “Preserve Local Bus Service on 16th St. NW”

The petition from Change.org says:

“We oppose the elimination of any bus stops along the route of the S2 and S4, specifically the ones at L, Q, V, Lamont and Newton Sts. NW.

We support having all S2 and S4 trips serve Metro Center and Federal Triangle, arriving and departing from the terminus at 10th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. NW.

16th St. already has an express line, the S9, for riders who prefer faster trips with fewer stops. In addition, the time saving that DDOT projects from eliminating bus stops is minimal (1 to 1.3 minutes), while the inconvenience for older and disabled riders would be significant.

Forcing riders to transfer to make a short trip between downtown and Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan or Mt. Pleasant would also be a major inconvenience, and will reduce ridership, increase the Metro subsidy and put more cars on the road, thus increasing air pollution and traffic congestion.”

“Scene at Bethesda, no escalators working”

WMATA tweets:

“Red Line trains are bypassing Bethesda station due to an escalator outage. Shuttle bus service from Medical Center. 9:10a #wmata”

“Red Line: No longer bypassing Bethesda. Station has re-opened, escalator service restored.”

Earlier WMATA tweeted a similar situation at Woodley Park:

“Red Line: Trains are temporarily bypassing Woodley Park due to an escalator outage. Shuttle bus service is available from Cleveland Park.

Red Line trains are no longer bypassing Woodley Park, the station has reopened. 7:18a #wmata”

and not sure if related but:

“Red Line: Expect delays in both directions due to a police investigation at Woodley Park.”

From WMATA:

“Metro is announcing the following service information for Thursday, January 28, 2016:

Metrobus

As snow clearing progresses and road conditions improve across the region, Metrobus service will be upgraded to a “light” snow service plan starting Thursday morning. Under the “light” snow plan, all routes are in service; however, pre-planned snow detours are in effect to keep buses off of hilly terrain, narrow streets and other problem areas. Bus customers should check the light service plan webpage for detour information: http://www.wmata.com/snow/light

As conditions improve, snow detours may be lifted and buses will resume normal routing. Metro will alert riders on a route-by-route basis through MetroAlerts by email or text message and on the Metrobus alerts and advisories page. Sign up for MetroAlerts at http://www.wmata.com/metroalerts .

Metrorail

On Thursday, Metrorail will continue to operate modified service, with trains running every 8 minutes during rush hours on each line. All stations are open. In the downtown core of the system where stations are served by multiple lines, trains will serve stations about every 4 minutes. (more…)

For those frustrated with the roads – we are all suffering… A reader reports: “Red line jammed in both directions.”

Another reader reports:

“Train offloaded at Dupont metro station a few minutes ago due to mechanical failure. Platform is packed, next train in 6 minutes. Welcome back to work everyone!”

IMAG1162
Euclid Street on Tuesday also with serious problems according to a reader

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to email about Park Road to alert people as to its condition after finding myself on it this morning. Coming from Mount Pleasant it looked like Park Road had been partially cleared but once you hit the bridge it becomes clear that it is just a single rough lane that has been carved out by heavier/all wheel drive cars over the last few days. The single lane wouldn’t be a problem except it isn’t marked and I found myself in a deadlock of cars coming up Park Road into Mount Pleasant and those like myself coming down Park Road and out of Mount Pleasant. There are no turn offs so both sides are left with the only option being to either reverse to entirety of their side or hope the other side does so. I spent 30 minutes in this deadlock until enough cars behind me (there were about 10-15 cars on either side) reversed that I could follow suit back up the hill. I wanted to send this in as Park Road is a major thoroughfare and its state is dangerous both because it is unplowed and because it is unmarked as such.”
