“The new dockless permit requirements reflect the promise DDOT sees in this program to increase active transportation in the District, as well as the many valid concerns we heard from a wide range of stakeholders involving safety and equity,” said DDOT Director, Jeff Marootian. “With the new permit we are upholding Mayor Bowser’s commitment to fostering innovation and competition among the many operators in this space while also delivering the safest, most sustainable, and most efficient transportation options to District residents and visitors.”

The application lays out the District’s goals for the program, and includes detailed terms and conditions for companies that are intended to maximize the safety, equity and mobility of the program. From WMATA:

“Metro announced that work to install new pipes under Connecticut Ave NW to provide chilled air service to the Dupont Circle and Farragut North Metrorail stations will begin November 5 and continue through late March (approximately 20 weeks). The work is necessary to reestablish a connection between a remote cooling tower, located atop an office building on Connecticut Avenue, with the two stations.

All of Metro’s underground stations are cooled by systems that move cold water to air handling units. As the water passes through the air handling cooling coils, chilled air is produced for the stations.

The original pipes under Connecticut Ave NW were damaged or have deteriorated to a point where they are no longer functional. (more…)

From WMATA:

“In a move designed to attract new customers and deliver better service for current riders, Metro General Manager/CEO Paul J. Wiedefeld will recommend to the WMATA Board of Directors this week an FY20 operating budget that does not raise fares, lowers the cost of weekend travel, increases rail service, and makes unlimited rail and bus passes even more affordable.

The recommendations include: expanding rush-hours to provide more frequent rail service later in the morning and evening, charging a flat $2 fare for all weekend Metrorail trips, extending the Yellow Line to Greenbelt to double rush-hour service at nine stations, running all Red Line trains to Glenmont to double rush-hour service at an additional three stations, making all trains eight-cars long, and enhancing the value of Metro unlimited bus and rail passes. “Dear PoPville,

A little kid left his stuffed turtle on the L2 bus and I’d like to try and get it back to him! At around 6:30pm Thursday 10/25 I was on the L2 bus traveling south toward Farragut square. I was sitting in the very back of the bus and a little boy (around age 3 or 4) got on the bus with his mother around the Van Ness area, they sat on the other side of the back of the bus. They got off at the stop right in front the Cleveland park library. A few stops later I noticed a little green stuffed turtle, which looked well loved, sitting on the seat.”

If its your child’s turtle please email [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with OP.
