Ursula sends the photo above from Farragut north yesterday at the start of rush hour.

Chris Alexander replied:

“somebody threw an umbrella onto the tracks along the red line and a train hit it and it went onto the 3rd rail, so they had to inspect everything to make sure there was no damage

Lesson: DO NOT THROW THINGS ONTO THE TRACKS”

“Dear PoPville,

Hoping you can help me! A woman’s watch fell off on the metro (Rosslyn, on the blue line) this morning and I couldn’t get it to her before the doors closed. She looked so bummed through the window and I would love to get it back to her. Maybe we can find her?”

We can and we will – Internet do your thing and when the lady sees this – please email [email protected] so I can connect you with OP.

Heads up Memorial Bridge users:

“Starting Monday, October 15, the National Park Service (NPS) will begin a new long-term change to the traffic pattern on Arlington Memorial Bridge. This change will reduce the bridge’s capacity from six to three lanes and one sidewalk until the rehabilitation is finished in 2021. To help people plan their trips across and around Arlington Memorial Bridge, new detour maps and animations are available for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians on the project website.

Crews will work to implement the new traffic pattern in the overnight hours Sunday into Monday morning. (more…)

Ouch, thanks to Grant for sending. “I think all the answers are ‘I like beer!'”

I’m on record saying it’s ok to kiss a bumper when parking but this is, well, not cool.

Lam Lam wrote us last week:

“I witnessed a major accident on DC 295 beside DC Water, a car was totaled after running into the back of a Safelite van, the van saw the speed camera and slammed on the breaks.”

The last couple of months have reinforced, to me anyway, that we definitely have a car/transit safety problem in D.C. Simply way too many crashes. I’m wondering what you guys think the solutions are? Are the cameras helping us? Do we need more stop signs, slowing measures etc.? Do we need more enforcement? What needs to be done to make our streets safer for everyone – cars, bikes, scooters and pedestrians alike?

“Dear PoPville,

Like many DC residents, Car2Go is a convenient option for me when it’s too wet to bike, or when my wife is out of town with our car on weekends and I need to get around. But lately, I’m loathe to use it, as I find that the Mercedes Benz cars (which are often the only cars available in my neighborhood) sometimes reek of cigarette smoke and frequently have actual ashes and/or butts in the ashtray. (See picture below taken this very morning.) For some unimaginable reason, these cars, which are of course meant to be shared, have functioning ashtrays and, again for some unimaginable reason, totally lack visible “no smoking” signs. (more…)
