“Dear PoPville,
I was wondering if readers had a suggestion for the most reliable/accurate app for metro arrivals. I’ve had bad experiences with both the “Metro and Bus” app and the Citymapper app recently where they indicate a bus is a few minutes away, but when I check it again in a few minutes that bus has disappeared and the next one is shown to arrive in 30 minutes. All of this while I was at the bus stop. Very frustrating! My particular routes are D6 and 96, and it’s happened several times on both. Any better apps out there? Thanks!”

“Dear PoPville,
Basically it was pouring rain outside and masses of people were entering the station for the Nats and DC United game. People wanted to take shelter so they stayed in the station. The police officer kept telling the crowd to disperse and make entrance and exit accessible. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I’ve been wondering- what’s protocol on the new red bus/bike lanes – should cars turning right stack in the red lane or next one over? I assume the latter.”
Just when you thought you’d heard it all…thanks to a reader for sending from 14th and R Street, NW, “loud & super annoying.”
Anyone else notice these around town?

Thanks to all who messaged about the bag inspections at the Columbia Heights metro yesterday.
Metro Transit Police have been doing random searches since at least 2008. We also spoke about random inspections in 2010.

Thanks to chai for sending: “It’s on the MBT by the noma station–same place that had chalk outlines previously. Now someone’s gotten some spray paint and a scooter stencil involved”

From WMATA yesterday:
“Good news for our Union Station customers: Repairs to the chiller system that provides cool air to the station were COMPLETED overnight, sooner than expected. The system is back online, and you should feel a difference starting today!”

Yikes. Thanks to Andrew for sending from K/2nd NE – happened around 7:05 am – two people in car, seemed to be fine (lucky!)
