From WMATA:

“As Metro prepares for critical safety repairs on the Red Line during the last two weeks of the year, plans are underway to ensure customers are well-informed about travel alternatives to get them to and from Red Line stations where service will be interrupted. Metro scheduled the work at the end of December, while ridership is at its lowest, to have the least impact on customers.

To complete the work safely and efficiently, there will be no Red Line service between Dupont Circle and Gallery Place between Monday, Dec. 18 and Saturday, Dec. 30. Farragut North and Metro Center (upper level) will be closed. Blue, Orange, and Silver line service will continue to be available for customers at Metro Center; however, Read More

“This week, customers may notice doors opening faster on some Red Line trains when they stop at stations. On Wednesday, Metro will begin certifying operators who have been trained to use Metro’s Auto Doors function.

Currently, operators are required to open and close train doors manually. Read More

“Metro will begin major work this weekend to repair the aerial structures outside Stadium-Armory where the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines intersect. The elevated structures are showing signs of aging after decades of wear and exposure and will undergo repairs during five weekend closures through the end of the year. Work will take place over four weekends between Saturday, Oct. 14 and Sunday, Nov. 12, with an additional weekend closure in December.

Metro has more than 150 elevated structures supporting nearly 20 miles of track, some now nearly 50 years old. The stretch between Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Ave/Benning Road is one of 11 bridges and aerial structures identified by Metro in significant need of rehabilitation and repair.

To accomplish this work, buses will replace trains between Eastern Market and Minnesota Ave/Benning Road, Saturday and Sunday Oct. 14 – 15, continuing the following weekend Oct. 21 – 22. Crews will return to the same location in December. The work will move to the Blue and Silver lines only, between Stadium-Armory and Addison Road the weekends of Nov. 4-5 and Nov. 11- 12.

During the closures, Read More

From WMATA:

“While Metro continues to inspect the oldest railcars in its fleet to ensure brake discs are properly bolted on all wheels, trains will operate near normal Sunday service for all customers with trains arriving every 8-12 minutes on all but the Blue and Yellow lines.

Track repairs are expected to be finished in time for Monday morning’s commute. Today, Blue and Yellow line customers will be served by trains every 15 minutes instead of every 12 minutes as crews continue to restore tracks damaged at National Airport by Friday’s derailed train that struck a brake disc on the tracks.
