“Dear PoPville,
One of my favorite things about DC is the second it gets warm outside the city comes to life. While that’s mostly a good thing I’ve been dealing with an unexpected problem – a neighbor’s charcoal grill smoke. (more…)

From the Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton:
“Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), co-chair of the Quiet Skies Caucus and a member of the Subcommittee on Aviation, introduced a bill today to require the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to create and implement a platform for sharing helicopter noise complaint data in the National Capital Region and to make the platform accessible to the public online. The House passed the bill last year as part of the FAA reauthorization.
“I hear from D.C. residents almost daily about the negative impact of helicopter noise on their lives, despite the airspace restrictions related to being the nation’s capital,” Norton said. “The noise can be damaging to health and quality of life, and helicopters can even harm the structural integrity of homes. While I recognize the need for helicopters in D.C., the FAA and Congress must do more to mitigate the harm to D.C. residents. I will continue to work with federal agencies that fly helicopters in D.C. and on legislation to reduce helicopter noise for D.C. residents.”

“Overhead Baseball Lights at Harrison Park (1300 block V St NW) on 24/7”
UPDATE: “after many calls from my neighbors it seems DPR sent out a maintenance crew and has finally turned off these lights.”
“Dear PoPville,
I live on the 1300 block of V St NW facing Harrison Park. On Monday, a maintenance crew came out and did something to the baseball diamond’s overhead lights. It seems like they haven’t finished that job yet and left a cherry picker parked on V St. Not sure what happened, but every since the lights have been left permanently on and now it’s keeping everyone on the block up at night. As you can see in the photos attached, it is super, super bright – great for nighttime little league games, not so much at 1 AM when we’re trying to sleep. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I live directly across the street from a DCPS elementary school and when they have field trips/activities, they often hire charter buses that sit and idle for long periods of time. This morning, the charter buses arrived at 5:30am and like always, they sat empty and idling — it is so LOUD. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Crazy screamers at Columbia Heights Metro have become sadly normal, the Black Hebrew Israelite etc. But right now 1/28/4:00 pm – intense insane screaming extreme volume. I have begged our council for years to simply prohibit amplified speech. (more…)

“shades closed from my bed”
“Dear PoPville,
I live across the street from the Signal House office building over in Union Market. The majority of the annoyingly loud, early morning construction seems finished, but now the lights in the offices (the fluorescent blinding lights) are on literally 24/7. (more…)
