“Overhead Baseball Lights at Harrison Park (1300 block V St NW) on 24/7”

UPDATE: “after many calls from my neighbors it seems DPR sent out a maintenance crew and has finally turned off these lights.”

“Dear PoPville,

I live on the 1300 block of V St NW facing Harrison Park. On Monday, a maintenance crew came out and did something to the baseball diamond’s overhead lights. It seems like they haven’t finished that job yet and left a cherry picker parked on V St. Not sure what happened, but every since the lights have been left permanently on and now it’s keeping everyone on the block up at night. As you can see in the photos attached, it is super, super bright – great for nighttime little league games, not so much at 1 AM when we’re trying to sleep. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I live directly across the street from a DCPS elementary school and when they have field trips/activities, they often hire charter buses that sit and idle for long periods of time. “Dear PoPville,

I live with my husband and 10-month old daughter and we’ve recently been shocked by the DC police’s lack of response to school alarm systems going off at all hours of the night and day.

The emergency alarm system at Dorothy Height Elementary has been going off throughout the night and day for about a week (and for about a month prior to this, but less frequently). See attached video. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

A few years ago a developer bought the row home behind us and used it as their office (despite it being zoned residential). Over those years they never took out their garbage and often let it pile 3 or 4 trash bags high. The rats had a field days and there was constantly trash everywhere. We tried talking to them and filed complaints with the city when that did not work but the issue continued until the day they received their demo permits for a condo conversion. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Myself, along with several other residents have been really frustrated with the flood lights that Nats park has recently started to turns on at all hours of the night and day. Despite putting blinds down the lights are so strong that they still come through and are affected sleep. See pic below(and doesn’t even do justice). (more…)

From WMATA:

“After weeks of certifying operators to use Automatic Door Operation on some Red Line trains, the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission gave its concurrence to allow Metro to fully operate in Auto Door mode on the Red Line starting today.

Customers will notice faster entries and exits on Red Line trains, causing doors to open within 3-5 seconds after the train stops on the station platform. The time saved per stop is around 10-15 seconds. (more…)
