A reader writes:

“His actions are waaaay too aggressive and border on harassment and cruelty to animals. Nonetheless, you likely have readers that aren’t on the list serv that need to be made aware of the “poison yard.” The police and District Environmental office have been made aware as well.”

From a Logan Circle neighborhood listserv:

Neighbors,

To the person who lets their dog continuously poop on my lawn, and then not pick it up; be forewarned, I am deploying lots of doggie unfriendly chemicals to the yard.

In the never ending battle to keep unwanted elements out of my yard, I will be deploying all sorts of highly dangerous chemicals to the lawn. Almost all of the manufacturers have extreme warning labels, to keep animals and small children away after deployment for at least 3 days, and in some cases up to 2 weeks. The chemicals will not harm people walking by, since the yard is designed to keep the chemicals from spreading to the sidewalk (although some did blow back on me while deploying today and turned my tongue purple).. Some type of chemical will be put on the lawn every week until maybe as far out as the late fall season. We started about 3 weeks ago, and I just finishing putting some down today. All of the chemicals are legal in most states, except the few that are leftover from the 1990s that I still have in stock. Email me if you have concerns.

The addresses impacted by all of the chemicals deployed include:9xx S Street 18xx 10th Street 18xx 10th Street

He’s gotta be just messing with folks right?

First things first – please continue to keep your eyes peeled for Ollie missing since March 30th.

A reader sends in a NBC report saying the owners could face a $750,000 fine unless the removed the missing Ollie posters:

“The couple said they got a call from a D.C. officer, saying the signs had to come down or they’d face a hefty fine.”

Anyway, this morning I got word that a new facebook page was launched if anyone has any sightings.

“Sightings:

4/11 Van Ness/Forest Hills: 2800 block of Davenport St NW
4/10 Petworth: 1300 block of Gallatin St NW
4/3 Howard U: Douglass Hall (NW)
4/2 Howard U: Jackson Building (NW)
3/30 Bloomingdale: 200 block of Bryant St NW”

The important thing is, please continue to keep your eyes peeled for Ollie.

“Dear PoPville,

I just adopted a beautiful, five-year-old german shepherd from a rescue this weekend, and she is already has me wrapped around her paw. We don’t know too much about her past, but she was malnourished and came to her foster mom with horrible (and I mean horrible) teeth. We want to get them cleaned, but the all of the baseline quotes have been between $450 and $700, not including extractions (which can be up to $70 a tooth!).

I realize that vet care in DC is very expensive, but I was wondering if any readers had recommendations for affordable dental care. Though I am prepared to pay the higher price, I want to make sure that my dog gets quality care, not a rip-off.

Thanks!”

“We adopted a yellow lab/retriever mix a week ago, today it pulled loose while being walked and ran away at 2pm today. It was by Howard University on Georgia Ave – the dog is 40 lbs, his name is Ollie, he will likely have his tail between his legs because he is always scared, and he is wearing a pink collar that says WARL and a light blue harness with a grey leash attached. Heartworm positive, reward will be offered. POC Roger 914-844-7692 or AnneMarie 801-971-2836.”

“We found this sweet female cat meowing outside our front door. She seems domesticated from her demeanor but she doesn’t have a collar. We have called Washington Humane Society, so they can take her in and scan for a microchip.”

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if you have any info about the water fountain at the LeDroit Park dog park, which has been out for a number of months now it seems. Perhaps it’s just turned off during the winter months? Anyhow, it’s typically my dog’s favorite feature of the dog park (the other dogs are just a bonus I guess), and I kept thinking it’d be fixed or turned on shortly but nothing has been done as of yet. Now that it’s getting warmer I’m more concerned as I know many dogs will be needing to stay hydrated if they’re outside for long period of time. Does anyone know who to contact to inquire about the issue?”
