I’m wondering whether you can ask the community about people’s experience with the airbnb ban next week. There are some foreign journalists who have had a reservation to stay at my house through inauguration week (the reservation is still active) and I’m wondering when it will be canceled as it’s supposed to be. Have others had their cancellations already?”

From the National Park Service effective today:

“Temporary Closure Beginning December 18, 2020

Consistent with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance and in coordination with the NPS Office of Public Health, the Washington Monument is temporarily closed due to a reduction in its workforce resulting from a potential COVID-19 exposure. NPS is working to staff the Washington Monument at the appropriate levels to maintain the safety of its operations for visitors and employees.”

“The National Park Service (NPS) will start work to improve accessibility and rehabilitate the historic landscape at Meridian Hill Park this month. This project focuses primarily on the lower plaza level of the park, near W Street NW, and is expected to be completed in summer 2022. (more…)
