Dear PoPville,

Curious to know if you know the story with this house at: 1402 12th St, NW. Certainly not horse’s ass status, but the facade has looked like that for as long as I’ve known it. I had heard a rumor that it was covered in copper, which was stolen/stripped(?), but even if that’s true, I don’t know why it’s been left like this. Any idea?

This was actually nominated for a horse’s ass award back in July 2010.

1841 7th Street, NW

A couple weeks ago we saw the location of Derek’s Brown Mockingbird Hill – 1843 7th Street, NW. Now comes even more news for the construction on the 1800 block of 7th St, NW. Right next door to Mockingbird Hill will be a new oyster bar called Eat The Rich. A liquor license posted out front says:

“Bar focusing on Farm Raised Chesapeake Oysters, local beer, and mixed drinks. Seating Capacity is 67, with a total Occupancy Load of 67.”

I’m not really a big fan of the name but a “Bar focusing on Farm Raised Chesapeake Oysters, local beer, and mixed drinks” sounds awesome. Stay tuned.

1905 9th Street, NW

From a press release:

1905 Bistro & Bar is excited to team up with DC Brau on two beer events at the restaurant on Thursday, March 7th – a rooftop beer launch featuring the brewery’s newest release, Saint Joseph’s Tripel, followed by 1905’s first-ever beer dinner in the main dining room.

The beer launch is open to the public from 5 to 7 PM with no cover. Reservations are not required. The Saint Joseph’s Tripel is a limited-release Belgian-style ale, which clocks in at 10% ABV and is brewed with orange peel, coriander, grains of paradise, and juniper berries. According to the brewery, an angel has “blessed this transcendent ale with deep flavors of passion fruit, kiwi, and tropical candy.” DC Brau beers poured during the beer launch will cost $5. All pours from the first keg of Saint Joseph’s Tripel that night will be $5 cash and will benefit the family of Joey Belcher.

The 1905 dining room will be reservation-only for the evening, as Chef Joel Hatton pairs four courses, plus an amuse bouche, with selections from DC Brau’s portfolio, including the Saint Joseph’s Tripel and the limited edition Catoctin Creek Grape Brandy Barrel Aged Ghoul’s Night Out. The beer dinner is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM. The full dinner menu, which is subject to change, (after the jump.) (more…)

1843 7th Street, NW

A couple of weeks ago we learned about Mockingbird Hill coming to Shaw from Derek Brown. At that time I wasn’t sure exactly where in the new construction on 7th Street it would be located. Now they’ve applied for a liquor license at 1843 7th Street, NW. It says:

“A bar focusing on Spanish sherry wine and Spanish & American hams. Other bar snacks will be served. Total number of seats is 53.”

Stay tuned for an anticipated May opening.
