4th and H Street, NE

Thanks to Colleen for sending: “there appears to be a permit and ongoing construction at the old Driftwood Kitchen/True Orleans location at 400 H Street Northeast. Driftwood Kitchen closed on New Year’s Day 2018, and the building has sat empty ever since. Word on H Street is this might be a crab shack restaurant (but don’t know for sure)!” (more…)

12th and Maryland Ave, NE

Liz reported Sunday morning: “This morning around 7:30am my husband saw some folks riding horses on Maryland Ave. and F St. NE. They weren’t wearing any uniforms and didn’t exactly say what they were doing other than “going for a ride.” Does anyone know what that was about?”

Thanks to Shannon Quinn for passing on the photo above from around noon on Sunday.

The Bajan Sensation notes: “There are groups of horse owners in PG County that ride into the city regularly, especially on the weekends”

1128 H Street, NE

From a press release:

“In 2012 we opened Cusbah, a bright eyed and bushy tailed restaurant coming onto H St NE looking to change the scene of Indian/Pakistani cuisine by nixing the white tablecloths, playing Prince, shaking up craft cocktails, and serving some damn good curries and kebabs. Likewise, I was a bright eyed and bushy tailed 22 yr old working as a food runner, fascinated by the industry I was entering on behalf of this restaurant opened by my cousin Sarosh Hussain and my father Tariq Hussain. Thanks to Michael for sending an update to the Civility Lives post:

“Block and alley cleanup

Sharing a positive approach to the trash problem in DC. After many months of an alley just piling up with garbage and weeds growing everywhere, and a couple of people taking taking unilateral action, 8 families out of 25 on the block, rallied on Sunday afternoon to clean and weed. It was amazing to see and after two weeks everyone continues to look good. Can we start a trend? Everyone can do this. Anyone with a trashy alley or block should do this.”

“Fondue at Stable/ Photo Credit- Amanda Hoey”

From an email:

“The team behind Stable will transition their summer Pier 1354 seafood shack pop-up on the patio at Gallery O on H (1354 H Street NE) to a cozy fondue and hot cocktail-focused outpost of their authentic Swiss restaurant on October 1. The outdoor satellite location, Little Stable, will allow guests to enjoy some favorite items from the Stable menu in an in-person setting for the first time since mid-March (the H Street restaurant closed their dining room due to the pandemic). Little Stable will operate Thursday-Sunday from 5 to 10 PM until October 22 (may be extended, weather depending). [Ed. Note: It’s D.C. we gotta be good until at least mid-November?!? Damn, wear a sweater or something.]

Stable owners Silvan Kraemer and David Fritsche will swap out the beach balls and summertime seafood at Pier 1354 for blankets, heat lamps, and a menu of Swiss fare and cocktails. Little Stable’s menu will center on warm, comforting food with three variations of Stable’s signature fondue featuring a blend of Schlossberger Old, Schlossberger Young and Vacherin cheeses cooked with garlic and white wine.
