Update from MPD:

“On Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at approximately 1142 pm a man responded to the 300 block of U street NE to complete a sales transaction for a pair of shoe that were purchased over the internet. When the man arrived he was approached by the purchaser and two additional individuals. The suspects robbed the man and as he fled to his car the suspects shot at the man striking him in the leg. Fifth District Officers responded to the scene and conducted an initial investigation which lead to the recovery of one semi-automatic hand gun.”

“In addition to the incident of gun shots that occurred about 12:50 am on April 26, 2016, there were multiple gun shots heard last night and police activity seen, again, in the 1900-2000 block of 3rd St. NE. While there appeared to be an investigation two days ago conducted in the alley behind 3rd Street, last night the police taped off an area directly on 3rd Street near U Street. (more…)

“Anyone Have Info on Shots Fired Last Night in Eckington?”

“Dear PoPville,

Does anyone have information on the shots fired incident that happened around 1am last night in the alley behind 3rd NE, between T and U? Two shots woke me up, and another seven or so followed. I called 911, and four squad cars came out for about two hours. I didn’t go out to speak with them at the time, but have been trying to follow-up today. Keep getting transferred and leaving messages. I’m wondering if anyone was hurt (hoping not; there wasn’t an ambulance), if they found casings (would like to know just how close this happened to my building–the shots seemed about 30 yards away), and if they have any suspects.”

Not sure if you have heard that the Eckington Civic Association (ECA) has decided to vote on pursuing historic designation for Eckington. This is becoming a somewhat heated issue for the neighborhood with people having strong opinions on all sides. Mostly this seems to be an anti-pop up effort by a few people (despite the 35 ft cap that’s already in R4).

They have just announced they are starting with a survey and based on the results of that survey, those who belong to the ECA will get to vote on pursuing historic. There’s not much information being shared on how many people have to respond to the survey, what the survey will actually ask, and what results will allow the ECA to move forward and vote. It’s definitely upsetting to some of us that not all residents can vote, only those who paid to be ECA members vote… (more…)

15 Year Old Arrested in Alleged Assault on the MBT where Victim was “approached by 14 juvenile males on bikes”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District have announced an arrest has been made in a Robbery Force and Violence offense, which occurred in the 1900 block of 5th Street, Northeast, on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at approximately 4:50 pm.

The victim was walking to his residence when he was approached by approximately 14 juvenile males on bikes. Several suspects assaulted the victim and stole his cell phone.

On Friday, April 1, 2016, a 15-year-old juvenile male, of Northeast, was arrested and charged with Robbery Force and Violence.

This case remains under investigation.

Anyone who has information regarding this case should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information may be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.”

“TODAY [Tuesday] AT APPROXIMATELY 4:50 PM, A VICTIM OF A ROBBERY REPORTS TO MPD THAT WHILE WALKING SOUTHBOUND ON THE METROPOLITAN BRANCH TRAIL [close to 5th and T St, NE] AN UNKNOWN SUSPECT STRUCK THE VICTIM WHILE RIDING HIS BIKE. THE VICTIM WAS THEN ASSAULTED BY THE INITIAL SUSPECT AND APPROXIMATELY 20 OTHER JUVENILE SUSPECTS. STOLEN FROM THE VICTIM WAS A CELL PHONE THAT WAS TAKEN DURING THE ASSAULT. ALL OF THE SUSPECTS FLED SOUTH ON THE TRAIL.”

“The Fifth District is investigating a shooting that occurred on March 25, 2016, at about 2200 hours. The victim was injured and is being treated at an area hospital for non- life threatening injuries. Anyone with information should call the Fifth District Detectives Office at 202-698-0660.”

“At least 2 CARS STRUCK BY GUNFIRE and man shot in shoulder, 2nd and V Sts NE-DC. Man already driven to hospital. 20+ shots fired.”
