A reader reports:

“I was walking on my way home this evening and was shocked to see the building had been emptied out at 1627 Conn Ave. I think it’s the last independent stores to close on that block?”

Oh dang, I loved this place! I called Mr. Taylor who said he closed last week but will still be selling his photographs at festivals and on his website.

In more curious pizza news – a reader reports:

“Any idea what happened to this &pizza? Never seen a closure sign quite so uninformative.”

I’ve sent an email to &pizza and will update if they’re able to share more. This &pizza opened up in the former Current Sushi space back in April 2015.

Update: (next time maybe I should check twitter…head smack) thanks to a reader for passing on from their twitter account:

“Small plumbing issue at Dupont today. Working to fix it ASAP and we’ll holler when we’re back up and running. Until then, hit up K Street.”

Dupont is back up and running. Come ‘n get it.

David Narvaez, 29 years old

“Dear PoPville,

2 weeks ago my friend and coworker was hit by a car as he was crossing the street in DC. The car took off, leaving David in the middle of the road. He was taken to a hospital where he passed away. Police have released some pictures and minimal information about the car/the events of that evening.

David was 29 years old (would have turned 30 this month). He worked with me at Lucky Bar in Washington DC. He was well-liked by both staff and customers. He didn’t deserve this; no one does.

We are also doing a fundraiser/memorial at Lucky Bar. This is from Lucky Bar’s Facebook page:

“The three soccer supporters’ clubs that call Lucky Bar home will host a joint fundraiser on 9/10. A percentage of bar sales and your generous donations throughout the day will be donated to his hometown chapter of Habitat for Humanity in David’s honor. Come out to join us raise funds for a worthy cause, and to celebrate the life and grieve our loss of a funny, kind, smart, and beloved dude. Doors will open at 7:15.”

From MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a traffic fatality that occurred on Friday, August 19, 2016 at approximately 2:40 am.

A pedestrian was crossing the street in the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and M Street, Northwest, when he was struck by a vehicle that was heading southbound on New Hampshire Avenue, Northwest. The driver of the vehicle involved failed to stop and continued driving. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced.

The decedent has been identified as 29-year-old David Narvaez of Arlington, Virginia.

Detectives are looking for a dark colored vehicle.

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to write to see if anyone had reported seeing a very suspicious person walking near the S Street Dog Park in Dupont on Sunday [09.04.16] night? My boyfriend and I were driving home around 9:15pm, looking for a parking spot and saw a man walking south down the middle of New Hampshire Ave. NW, and when we drove by him, he stared into our car. We saw that he was wearing a mask or had a fully painted face, a black hooded sweatshirt, and he was carrying 1-2 bags in his hands. We circled the block, found a spot, and while walking back to our house saw him again in the same spot, but on the sidewalk. Once inside our apartment, we saw he started walking north on 17th Street so we called the police. They said someone was dispatched, but we’re not sure if anything was resolved.

I was wondering if anyone else saw him? It was pretty terrifying and to add to the strangeness, there were plenty of people walking around that didn’t seem to register this guy. It was bizarre.”
