17th Street Festival is Saturday!

MPD notes: 17th Street NW from R Street to P Street NW will be closed from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on Saturday.

17th Street Festival‘s facebook page says:

“The 7th Annual 17th Street Festival, a community-building event celebrating the shops, restaurants, and services of 17th Street, will take place on Saturday, August 27, 2016 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. The street festival will include artists, artisans, for profit vendors, politicians, kids activities, and a pet area – rain or shine

The 17th Street Festival will include entertainment all day, including a marching band to open the festival, mariachi band to enliven the day, a Chinese dragon dancer to add some mystery, and a New Orleans jazz band to bring some charm. (more…)

The new coffee and cocktails spot, Emissary, is now open on P Street in Dupont.

“Emissary is a coffeehouse, bar, and cafe located in Washington DC’s historic Dupont Circle neighborhood, just below Dupont Circle Yoga.

We believe in the Swedish notion of “fika” – taking a moment to have coffee, slow down, and contemplate on your own, or to gather with friends, and savor the moment.

Why are the sidewalks still blocked in front of the new Hepburn Apartments?

“Dear PoPville,

Why does the Hepburn at Florida & T Streets not seem to be in any hurry to open the blocked sidewalk and traffic lane on Florida Ave NW?

The building appears to be nearly finished, landscaping is done, and the leasing office is open and tours are being conducted.

It appears the blocked sidewalk is being used to park the porta johns and not much else.”

2am Shooting in Dupont around Connecticut and S St, NW – Report of “guns blazing” from cars driving the wrong way down 20th

MPD reported:

“Shooting: 0202 hours, 2000 block of S Street, NW. No lookout”

as of 6:50am:

“DDOT reports all street closures associated to the police activity in the vicinity of 1700 block of Connecticut Ave NW are now OPEN to traffic. ”

There was a harrowing description posted on the Dupont Listserv based on “eyewitness accounts”:

“There are reports that one person was shot, possibly in the leg, but no reports on condition. There were 5 cars that sped the wrong direction (South) on 20th Street, guns blazing. Some shots are believed to have traveled East down S Street (based on a witness who was on the sidewalk in the 1900 block of S Street NW) as the gunfire started. He reported that one bullet sounded as though it traveled right by him and on down the street, while another one made a sound as though it had hit metal. (more…)
