Last night was pretty crazy and to be honest a bit hard to follow. This is what we know for sure from MPD around 9pm:

“Shooting at 14th & Meridian Pl NW Lookout is for 3 b/m’s mid 20’s wearing all black clothing with hoodies. last seen running westbound across 14th Street NW.”

Josh reported: “4-5 gunshots”

Side note: One reader tells us, “Watched the fire truck and ambulance who were going to the scene be delayed for almost 5 minutes because a MD driver couldn’t back down Meridian Pl to get out of the way.”

Before that is where it gets confusing. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I have a driving etiquette/rule question that I could use your readers’ input on. It’s about whether to block cars or block bikers while I wait to safely turn right.

I drive home from work by going north on 11th St. NW and turning right onto Harvard St. NW. Harvard is one-way going east in this location. The northbound side of 11th St. consists of one lane for traffic and one lane of parked cars, with a bike lane in between.

When I turn right from 11th to Harvard, I often have to wait for pedestrians who are crossing Harvard in the crosswalk. I also have to wait for bikers (who I see in my right side mirror coming up behind me going north on 11th) to pass me on my right so I don’t hit them when I make my right turn.

While I wait with my right turn signal on, I do not start my turn and wait in front of the crosswalk because, if I do, I block the path for bikers who are going straight. (more…)

15th/16th between W and Euclid Street, NW

Last week we we broke the great news that the fountains were finally fixed and flowing. Then they overflowed and were turned off. Such is life in PoPville these days. But forward we shall march.

Thanks to Lauren for the excellent update:

“It started up again yesterday and is still on!! It is amazing. Hopefully will stay on and not just being tested.”

STAY TUNED.

Ed. Note: I believe at most locations these are intended to slow down cars that are turning.

“Dear PoPville,

Any idea what these new lane blockers are supposed to be “solving?” They were recently installed along 13th St. at Kenyon, Columbia Rd. and a few other streets. They prevent cars from going around a car that is waiting to turn left. I suppose that might be a good idea to prevent cars turning right and hitting pedestrians crossing in the crosswalk with the green light, but Kenyon and Columbia are one-way going west. So no cars would be turning right.

All it does is back up traffic along 13th st. and encourage drivers to make more risky left turns.”

From MPD Friday night:

“Sounds of Gunshots/Destruction of Property – 1300 block of Fairmont St (PSA 304) Units responded to the area in reference to the sounds of gunshots. Units canvassed the area and located seven shell casings. Also a vehicle was located with damage caused by a gunshot. CCN 19-099386.”

At 6:45am Bill reported Saturday:

“starting early this AM. 4-6 gunshots then 2-4 more at 11th and Columbia-ish about 5 mins ago”

Z reported last night:

8-10 gunshots on 9th and Crittenden NW just before 1 am, now police and EMS are here, Crittenden taped off, ugh”

A reader reports:

“There were 5-6 shots fired somewhere around Clifton and 13th or 14th Street around 11:15 pm this evening. Many people heard, and came to their windows and local security guards who patrol the housing nearby heard the shots came out to investigate before the police arrived but didn’t seem to find anything although they were looking for shells. I didn’t see anyone flee the area, but perhaps some other readers have more information. Just wanted to let people know these shootings are still happening around the area, especially in light of recent events.”

MPD does not always issue reports for shots fired, if no one or no property is hit, so often the only way to know is through your reports. If you happen to hear them please email [email protected] or contact us @PoPville so we can keep a record. Thanks.
