Anafre Transitions To Pizza Pop-Up on 14th Street “the seafood-heavy menu at Anafre doesn’t work as well for pandemic times”

“Chef Alfredo Solis has transformed his critically acclaimed restaurant, Anafre, into a pizzeria serving up Mexican-inspired pizzas.

Like many restaurants in DC right now, Anafre must adapt to stay afloat. The Mexican street food at Solis’ other restaurants, Mezcalero and El Sol, has proven to be a comfort to residents in times of uncertainty, but the seafood-heavy menu at Anafre doesn’t work as well for pandemic times. (more…)

9:27pm Double Shooting (one man killed) at 13th and L St, SE, Other Shots Fired/Shootings reported (including another homicide)

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, in the 1000 block of 13th Street, Southeast.

At approximately 9:27 pm, members of the First District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, members located a male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life and the victim was pronounced dead. The victim remained on the scene until being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Members located an additional adult male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The surviving victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. (more…)

Fire on 16th Street Last Night around 6:30pm

DC Fire and EMS reported: “Update Working Fire 3500 block 16th St NW. Fire 2nd floor minor extension above in 3 story middle row apartment building that appears to be under renovation. #DCsBravest quickly extinguished fire and prevented spread to adjacent buildings. No injuries. Investigators on scene.”

Not to make light of a serious situation but the guy casually walking by in front of the flames at the end of this DCFD clip is something: (more…)

From MPD at 3:23pm Sunday: “ALERT: Robbery Investigation in the 1500 block of Meridian Pl NW. Lookout is for 3 Black Males, 1 armed with a rifle, and was last seen in a Gray Nissan

Alan Henney reported at 3:29pm: “ARMED ROBBERY w/ AK-47 RIFLE— Meridian Pl off 16th St NW-DC in the Columbia Heights/ Mt. Pleasant area. 3 men, 1 armed with an AK47-style rifle, robbed the victim of $$, phone and keys, then they fled in a gray Nissan Maxima.”

“Bold Package Theft in Broad Daylight”

“Dear PoPville,

Brazen package theft occurred in a Columbia Heights at 3:15pm today (Thursday.) One woman was observed approaching the home with her cart, presumably loaded with other stolen packages, to take a stack of packages from the front door which had been delivered by FedEx just a few minutes earlier. A man appears to be accompanying her, and serving as a lookout while she acquires the packages. Two individuals with similar physical descriptions have been previously seen in the immediate area at night searching for packages left on porches overnight.”

Ed. Note: Historically, package theft always increase as we approach the holidays. Try to pay particularly close attention to delivery alerts if you get them.

“REALLY loud boom last night at 3 am”

“Dear PoPville,

My entire apartment shook last night with a really loud BOOM at 3 am. Woke me up scared out of my mind. I know this happened earlier in the year too. I live right by Cardozo. Anyone else feel it?”

It had been 28 days since our last report of loud booms. Anyone else hear it last night?

Ossobuco opened in Columbia Heights

Thanks to Anthony for sending the good word: “I hope to inform the Columbia Heights community that seeing clients entering the new restaurant on 11th St called Ossobuco has opened.”

Their website is still being worked on but presumably we’ll be able to see their menu here. Anyone take an early taste?
